POSITION PURPOSE
This is a senior-level professional planning and urban design position, which will perform a variety of design related work efforts; both in project review and in the development of design guidelines, long range planning documents, comp plans, etc. The position will be a key contributor to the Planning Division regarding urban design concepts. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday (City Hall is closed on Fridays).
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate will have experience or familiarity with Effective oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and technical expertise are essential for successful job performance. In addition, the position requirements include:
Required:
- Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related field with at least four (4) years of experience in a design related field; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a design discipline, such as urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture combined with at least six (6) years of directly related experience
Preferred:
- Strong background in city planning, urban form, and design (both architecture and base land planning, land use mix, etc.)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp and GIS
- Certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), membership in the American Institute of Architects (AIA), LEED Certification, or equivalent
- Ability to visualize potential schemes and devise alternatives
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, systems, and the tools used to construct objects, structures, and buildings
