Wayne State University’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2023. We offer the following degree programs: Master of Urban Planning (MUP) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Urban Studies. Additionally, we offer graduate certificates in Economic Development, Urban Sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems, and undergraduate minors in Urban Studies and Urban Sustainability. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) in the College of Design at Iowa State University is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 16, 2023.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the missions of the Department and College by teaching core planning courses and electives at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as community development courses at the graduate level. We are seeking a candidate who has research, teaching, and professional expertise in the broadly defined area of community development. We seek an innovative and productive scholar interested in community development whose work focuses on one or more of the following: 

  • community engagement
  • participatory and inclusive planning 
  • food security and social justice
  • land use and physical planning
  • zoning and plan implementation

 

We invite candidates who use a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, including, but not limited to, participatory action research and community-engaged research. We expect the successful candidate to strengthen connections between our planning programs and our new online Masters in Community Development (MCD) program. Assistant Professor – Dept. of Public Administration, UIC

Who: The Department of Public Administration (DPA), College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA), University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

What: DPA is hiring a tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning in 2019. DPA is seeking candidates who bring a strong commitment to an active research program and excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The Sam Fox school is a design environment, housing art, architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. We have amazing students from all over the world and work locally and globally on issues surrounding sustainable urbanism. Our school is half undergrads and half grads, including a growing population in dual degrees (architecture / landscape architecture / urban design / public health with the Brown School) and a new Doctoral Program in Sustainable Urbanism.

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University seeks candidates for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin in August 2018, as described below. We especially seek individuals who can contribute to our ongoing efforts to enhance our multicultural educational environment.
Position 1: Assistant Professor, Land Use and Real Estate Development
The successful candidate for this position is required to have a Land Use and Real Estate Development focus, with general teaching and research interests focused upon land development in the United States. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to strengthening the relationship between the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Real Estate program in the College of Business. The successful candidate will teach courses in the unit’s core curriculum, land use specialization, and at the intersection of land use planning and real estate development. We encourage applications from candidates who can incorporate topics such as development finance, project permitting, and fiscal impact analysis into our planning curriculum. Understanding of the Florida land development context would be welcome, though similar experience elsewhere would also be useful.
Position 2: Assistant Professor, Land Use Planning
The successful candidate for this position will serve as a primary faculty member in the program’s nationally recognized Land Use and Comprehensive Planning specialization. The successful candidate will teach courses in the unit’s core curriculum and land use specialization, and may include courses that cover related topics such as: comprehensive planning, sustainable infrastructure and development, plan implementation, site planning, or urban redevelopment. We further seek candidates who can teach at the intersection of land use and other dimensions of planning. We encourage candidates whose research contributes to how issues of land use impact individuals differently by race and ethnicity, social and economic mobility, and gender and sexual orientation to apply. We are especially interested in scholars whose work engages with issues of concern to Latina and Latino communities in the United States and/or communities in the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

The Community and Regional Planning Department at the University of New Mexico is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Water Resources Planning, Development and Sustainability to commence in the Fall 2018 semester.   Strengths in one or more of the following is desired: arid lands, governance, hydrology, watershed management, ecosystem services, spatial analysis, rural planning, climate change adaptation, Indigenous communities, Chicana and Chicano communities, or Latin America. Rethinking how people manage water is critical to building resilient and just communities.  Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate courses.

The Community and Regional Planning Department has a diverse faculty and student body who are committed to social transformation, collective action and community engagement that works towards social justice and resilient communities. The Community and Regional Planning Department offers two degrees, a BA in Environmental Planning and Design and an accredited Master of Community and Regional Planning. The MCRP program has concentrations in Natural Resources and Environmental Planning, Indigenous Planning, Community Development, and Physical Planning and Design. The Community and Regional Planning Department is affiliated with the Resource Center for Raza Planning and the Indigenous Design and Planning Institute.  About one-quarter of graduate students are enrolled in dual degrees with Latin American Studies, Water Resources, or Public Administration.  About 65 graduate students and 55 undergraduates are enrolled each year. The faculty is considering embarking on a PhD program.

The School of Planning, Public Policy and Management (PPPM) at the University of Oregon invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position. This position is part of a cluster of activity led by the Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI), called Urbanism Next. Advances in technology such as the advent of autonomous vehicles (AV’s), the rise of E-commerce, and the proliferation of the sharing economy will have profound effects on how we live, move, and spend our time in cities, but also increasingly on urban form, economic systems, real estate, quality of life, the environment, social mobility, equity, and more. This faculty position will focus on transportation planning, policy, and modelling, with a specific focus on the impacts of these technological changes on urban form, environment, equity, livability, and economy. SCI is an applied think tank focused on sustainability and cities and Urbanism Next is a core, crossdisciplinary, long term research area for SCI and core to many of the activities within the School of PPPM. Urban Studies Assistant Professor at Trinity College, Hartford CT

Tenure-track Position in Urban Studies at Trinity College

The Urban Studies Program (URST) at Trinity College announces a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level focused on Sustainable Urban Development, with a comparative global perspective. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with some range of the following preferred qualifications and expertise: sustainable urban development and environmental policy, international comparative urban environmental policy, urban environmental health and policy, sustainable urban design, sustainable urban transportation and infrastructure, global climate change’s impacts in urban development, urban sustainability and environmental justice, or intersections between social and environmental movements and urban sustainability dynamics. Interests in urban Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial statistics and data visualization applications to sustainable urban development will be considered, but are not required. The geographical regions of specialization are open, although primary research in regions other than North America is preferred; an international and comparative perspective on sustainable urban development and environmental policy is imperative.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in her/his specialty, including a basic course on sustainable urban development and a core course entitled, “From Hartford to World Cities.” URST is an interdisciplinary program, and thus we welcome applicants from a number of disciplines. Candidates should hold a PhD or have a completed PhD by the time of appointment in a relevant field such as urban planning, urban studies, environmental studies, public policy, geography, sociology, or anthropology. The teaching load is 2/2 for the first two years (and 3/2 thereafter) with a one-semester leave every fourth year.  The successful candidate will be housed in the Urban Studies Program.

The University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position within the Department of Public Administration. The Department of Public Administration, which is housed in the College of Public Affairs and Administration, offers a NASPAA-accredited MPA program with more than 200 students (on-campus and online), plays a significant role in teaching and serving on dissertation committees in the campus’s only doctoral program (a DPA program) and offers an undergraduate program in public administration. Qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate (Ph.D., DPA or related by the time of appointment in August 2018) in public administration, public policy, political science, or a related field. Teaching responsibilities include core courses within the MPA program and elective courses relating to the applicant expertise. Advising responsibilities include MPA students and possibly DPA and undergraduate students. Applicants should have an emerging record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service. All faculty teach some courses in our online MPA program; experience in online teaching is desirable. Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications.
