Organizer, Chicago Workers Collaborative - Chicago

The Chicago Workers Collaborative is a nationally recognized worker rights

organization formed by temporary staffing workers to build power and raise labor

standards in the temporary staffing industry.

CWC seeks an Organizer based in our Chicago Worker Center to build workers' power

to affect change in the workplace and community of temporary stafing workers. In

particular, the organizer will be CWC's point person in the Justice for Bakery Workers

Campaign, which seeks to organize temp staffing workers in Chicago's baking industry

in collaboration with the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers

International Union (BCTGM) Local 1, for higher wages, safer working conditions, and

more workplace rights. The Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) will support this effort

through community mobilizing and their communications capacity, to help others

understand the importance of Justice for Bakery Workers, and of converting temp jobs

to direct-hire positions to rebuild our economy.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Develops, trains, and supports worker leaders.

2. With consultation from the Organizing Director, develops long-term strategic

campaigns to advance the interests and mission of the organization, with primary

responsiibiity for the Justice for Bakery Workers Campaign.

3. Uses good judgment, both political and strategic, to advance interests of

organization

4. Assumes responsibility and coordinates all aspects of events/actions by himself or

herself

5. Able to manage a crisis to the benefit of the organization and its mission and goals,

in consultation with the Organizing Director or in the Organizing Director's absence

on a temporary basis

6. Develop strategic alliances with elected officials, unions, and other organizations in

order to advance the interests of the organization and its legislative and workplace

campaigns

Required Qualifications

 Strong demonstrated commitment to worker rights, immigrant rights, and racial

justice/racial unity in community and labor organizing;

 Significant life experience in the low-wage labor sector, either as a worker or an

organizer

 Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, collegial attitude and interest in

mentoring new and/or inexperienced worker organizers;

 Bilingual English/Spanish both written and spoken

 Commitment to own professional growth.

Preferred Qualifications

 Experience organizing Latino and/or temporary workers;

 Experience working in the non-profit community.

Salary Range and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health plan

as well as vacation and sick days.

Start Date

Expected start date will be in January 2014.

The Village of Oak Park has an immediate opening for a Grants Coordinator.  This position is responsible for developing; administering and coordinating a variety of grant funded programs; for Community & Economic Development and other Village departments; coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Community & Economic Development Director, other Department Directors as well as advisory boards and commissions.

Training/Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, accounting, economics, urban planning, business management, or related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in writing grants and monitoring of grant funded programs.  Experience with CDBG funds is a must.   •  Intelligent Transportation System Engineer (ITS Engineer) ($74,000.00 - $78,000.00/Year)
    • Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering is required for this position.
    • Registration as a professional engineer is required for this position.

    • Incumbent must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in analog and digital electronic systems installation, testing, troubleshooting and field repair of video systems, sensor technology, power systems (including uninterruptible power supplies and solar power generation), Cisco networks, and data communications. The ability to read and interpret electronic schematics is required.
    • Operation of standard, hand held field test equipment is required.
    • The ability to expertly use standard Microsoft Office software, terminal emulators and other laptop computer applications is required.
    • The ability to use Cisco IOS operator commands to configure level 3 switches is desirable.
    • Proficiency is required operating the necessary test equipment.
    • Must have current certification of program completion and experience with terminal emulators, TCP/IP, UDP, and RSTP protocols, network routing, spanning tree, fiber optic communications, uninterruptible power supplies, solar power, battery charging systems, grounding, surge arrestors, and lightning protection.
    • A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained for this position.
    • Ability to lift objects weighing as much as 50 pounds is required.
    • The incumbent is also required to be scheduled to work on a rotating schedule which includes weekends and holidays, to work overtime when necessary and be available for emergency call outs during off hours, non-scheduled weekends, and holidays.

Summary of Duties
Reporting directly to the Legislative Affairs Officer, the Legislative Affairs Liaison performs the role of field liaison for Metra in areas of community and legislative outreach. Gathers and disseminates Metra's viewpoints and positions on transit and community issues to various elected officials. Proactively seeks out and develops strong relationships with key public and political stakeholders. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

§  Seven (7) years of direct experience in the areas of public relations, client relations and liaison work with legislative leaders at the state level.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Project Manager

Summary of Duties
Reporting directly to the DBE Senior Director, the DBE Project Manager oversees and manages research, analysis, planning, development and implementation of special projects for the Office of Business Diversity and Civil Rights. Provide project oversight (initiation, planning, design/development and management) and technical expertise with DBE and Title VI related issues, and establishing timelines. Manage project risks to proactively identify potential issues. Employ risk mitigation strategies to minimize impact. Coordinate process for post project review of policies and procedures employed with a view to improve future projects performance.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
§  Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related discipline, OR in lieu of degree, any combination of education and contract administration and/or project management experience that equals four (4) years.
§  In addition to #1, must have five (5) years of contract administration and progressive management experience.
§  Previous experience working with federal, state, and local agencies.
§  Project management certification is preferred.
