  • Serves as the primary contact for the County for all matters relating to land use planning.

Planner 1 (MPO) - Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization. (Cedar Rapids, IA)

What: Provides professional assistance for a range of urban planning, transportation, land use, and related activities. Based on experience and knowledge, some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment. Public Lands Transportation Fellowship - Western Transportation Institute (MSU-Bozeman)

Who: The Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University Bozeman. The Public Lands Transportation Fellows (PLTF) program, previously known as the scholars program, provides fellowships to outstanding masters and doctoral graduates in a transportation-related field. The fellows are provided with a unique opportunity for career development and public service working directly with staff of Federal Land Management Agencies (FLMAs) on key visitor transportation issues.

What: Fellows are assigned to work with staff at a unit or region/field office facing a transportation issue to facilitate a transportation planning or implementation project. Job Responsibilities
  • Provide staff support to the board and its committees and serve as the board's liaison to community and civic groups, government and elected officials.
  • Oversee all accounting functions including those necessary for auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, capital asset and property management and payroll.
  • Create and manages acquisition, demolition and disposition programs.
  • Be responsible for development of agreements including negotiating terms that reflect the needs of the community and the Troy Community Land Bank.
  • Source and pursue grant opportunities along with other fund development opportunities.

  • Create alternative sources of revenue generation and lines of business.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or a directly related field, plus five years of work experience in the development and management of major planning or research studies, including two of supervisory experience related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

  • Provides staff support to committees including work plan development, agenda's and minutes, noticing meetings, research and report writing, legislative analysis and special projects.
  • Keeps abreast of City codes, especially those pertaining to Community Development and provide information to staff and public.
  • Employs Geographic Information Systems to assist with all aspects of community development and mentor GIS/Planning Internship positions.
  • Develops short and long range planning projects and implements the City's Master Plan.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving, presentation, communication and organizational skills.
  • Prepares memoranda, reports and other documents for a range of audiences and present recommendations to policy making bodies.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed of work progress, including potential issues and suggestions for new or improved methods.
  • Represents the department and serves as liaison to a variety of departments, commissions, committees and agencies; provides presentations to the same.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audiovisual materials to become and remain current on the principals, practices and new developments in Community Development.
  • Assists with redevelopment and economic development opportunities as needed.
  • Performs other related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.

QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Community and Regional Planning or related field
Three years' experience in a City Planning Department environment
Valid driver's license

Preferred
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Community and Regional Planning or related field
Six years' experience in a City Planning Department environment
AICP certification

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
  • Must have excellent analytic, writing and presentation skills and the ability to produce credible, succinct, technically accurate and understandable quality written reports using MS Office products.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
  • Capable working knowledge and experience in research and data methods related to planning and community development.
  • Skilled in Geographic Information Systems, specifically ESRI ArcGIS products and Adobe Illustrator/MA Publisher
  • Performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines.

The Village of Mount Prospect is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Development Review Planner within the Community Development Department.

Essential responsibilities include:
  • Reviews development plans to ensure compliance with the Village’s Zoning Ordinance;
  • Reviews plats to ensure compliance with the Subdivision Code;
  • Prepares and presents staff’s recommendation at public hearings;
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission;
  • Provides technical assistance to the general public regarding zoning; and
  • Performs other duties including performing final inspections, code enforcement, participating in the development of code updates.
The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning or related field and at least two (2) years of planning experience. A master’s degree and/or experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable, but not required. Strong verbal and writing skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and excellent customer service skills are a must.

This position pays between $60,000 and $65,000 annually depending on qualifications.
