Description: This position is responsible for the Administrative Operations of the Department of Biological Sciences which includes three sites, Science and Engineering South (SES), Science and Engineering Laboratory (SEL) and Molecular Biology Research Building (MBRB). Independent action and discretion are essential in overseeing a wide range of administrative projects. Especially important will be this person’s ability to assume direct responsibility for the long range planning, goal setting and coordination of several areas of activity vital to this academic unit, including providing day-to-day direction and project management for professional staff, administrative offices, curriculum planning, faculty affairs, instructional and summer budgets, and self and comparative assessments. In addition, this position provides guidance on all personnel issues; participate in process and customer service improvement.
Duties: • Manage the Department Human Resources and Payroll operations

• Manage support staff administrative activities

• Advise faculty and staff on employee relation issues, such as, grievance, mediation and disciplinary procedures.
Qualifications: *Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

*• Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or a field related to the position

• Two years of finance and budgeting experience, one year of which was at an administrative level in a university or similar institution

• Minimum of five years of administrative management and supervisory experience

• Experience with Microsoft Office for PC/Mac


*Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

*• Master’s degree in business administrative management or a related field

• Ability to interpret employee relations and faculty affairs policies and procedures

• Previous experience with HR and Payroll functions, and working knowledge of Banner and HireTouch or comparable software.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to plan and organize large scale projects as needed

(as approved by the Lake Council and Lake County Plan Commission 5/85)
JOB TITLE: PLANNER
SUMMARY: Compiles data and provides information pertinent to proper planning
decisions and procedures by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
• Assist and advise individuals and developers on matters concerning zoning and
subdivision control ordinance requirements such as change of zoning maps,
variances of use and development standards, special exceptions and
subdivisions;
• Assist in revising and updating local ordinances and preparing zoning resolutions
for review by the appropriate board;
• Present bonds or other forms of surety for acceptance with accompanying letter
of explanation to the Lake County Board of Commissioners;
• Calculate cost of required surety for subdivision improvements and notify
developers and keep record of book, page and date of acceptance of surety as
registered by the Lake County Auditor;
• Conduct on-site inspections of petitions for zoning variances, subdivisions,
special exceptions and other zoning matters to be brought before the
Commission or Board to obtain first-hand knowledge of eXisting conditions;
• Inspect and make recommendations on streets and other pUblic improvements
within subdivisions;
• Calculate and assess building permit and inspection fees;
• Maintain files on all new and existing subdivisions, indicating their status
regarding surety and answer all inquires on status of surety with respect to public
improvements. Maintain a follow-up file system for the expiration of all forms of
surety;
• Perform limited drafting duties;
• Attend and prepare for monthly meetings of the Lake County Plan Commission
and Lake County Board of Zoning Appeals;
• Provide technical assistance and recommendations to other participating
jurisdictions, agencies, departments and boards on matters pertaining to
planning and zoning; and,
• Other duties that may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to conduct each duty satisfactorily. The prerequisites listed
herein are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. Reasonable

• Knowledge of principles and practices of rural, urban and regional planning and
aptitude for research methodology of standard sources and uses of
socioeconomic planning information.
• Ability to read and interpret a wide variety of laws, ordinances and codes

• Ability to conduct studies and investigations of rural properties and physical
conditions to prepare reports of a partiCUlar feature under study.
• Aptitude for mathematics and computations and excellent written and oral skills.
• Knowledge and ability to perform clerical duties and compose correspondence
and reports.
• KnOWledge of techniques necessary to prepare maps, charts and graphs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An applicant is expected to have at least a
Bachelor Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from a four-year accredited college or
university and a minimum of one year related experience or training.
