We are hiring an Operations Manager!

Design Trust Chicago is seeking a community focused, diligent, collaborative, and results oriented Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will work closely with senior leadership in the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan while overseeing day to day operations.

What you’ll do

  •  Organizational Development
    • Program management (design services program, volunteers, -- applications, database, follow up)
    • Coordination of public programming, convenings and events including scheduling, logistics, and development of outreach materials.
    • Research and identification of funding opportunities
  • Internal Administration
    • Budget management and reporting
    • Organize, manage, or review organizational assets and documentation (bylaws, visuals, photos, narratives, administrative, etc.)
    • Coordination and administration of services of external consultant engagement for grant writing, strategic planning, communications, legal counsel, and other supporting professional services
    • Board management and documentation including materials, board meeting coordination and sub-committee management
  • Outreach and Partnerships
    • Active stakeholder engagement and organizational partnership building
    • Development of written program outreach materials, including press releases, website content, and materials for grants and other communications, as required

What you’ll need  

  • Required
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
    • Three to five years of experience in project management, office administration or related capacities
    • Proficiency with scheduling and coordinating in-person and online meetings
    • Comfortable in coordinating input from various organizations for public/private collaboration, including multi-disciplinary project efforts working with allied professionals such as architects, civil engineers, and developer
    • Strong organizational and collaboration skills
    • Proficient in MS Office and Google Workspace
  • Preferred
    • Experience interacting, building relationships and managing communications with stakeholders (e.g. board members, partner organizations).
    • Experience and interest in web design, creating landing pages, registrations for events, and more (i.e. WordPress, Wix, Eventbrite)
    • Experience with email marketing and newsletter tools (i.e. Mailchimp)
    • Experience within or adjacent to community design (architecture, landscape architecture or urban design).

The Government Finance Research Center (GFRC) was founded in 2018 and is a unit of the University of Illinois Chicago’s (UIC’s) College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA). The purpose of the GFRC is to shape and inform public policy and scholarly discourse on government and public finance by identifying, planning, and executing research, providing reports and informed analyses, and offering inclusive venues to convene national and local discussions on fiscal and governance issues.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Government Finance Research Center (GFRC) will contribute to a multi-year study of municipal water rate setting in Illinois, as well as other research projects and external funding proposals as needed. The Water Rate Setting Study is part of a state appropriation awarded to the GFRC by the Illinois General Assembly for the purpose of researching how municipalities and water districts establish rates, what factors influence rate adjustments, whether equity and affordability are integrated into the rate-setting process, how rate-setting varies between economically disadvantaged and economically advantaged communities, and how such variation impacts the accessibility of drinking water for community residents.

The position will begin on August 16, 2022 and end on August 15, 2023. The position may be renewable for a second year. Competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position contributes to the design, management, and delivery of research projects in collaboration with other researchers, including faculty and graduate students. This includes qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting on research results with minimal daily supervision.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with the GFRC Director and Associate Director to develop objectives and design of research projects, data collection procedures, and grant proposals. Conceptualize, initiate, and execute research goals for projects.
  • Formulate, coordinate, and conduct advanced research studies and analyses. Perform complex data collection and refine study design. Analyze and interpret data and evaluate research results.
  • Develop and write advanced, comprehensive protocols.
  • Monitor project development on an ongoing basis. Propose and implement changes as needed.
  • Contribute material, prepare results, and assist in the design and writing of research findings for publications, white papers and reports, presentations, grants, and other documents for dissemination and/or publication. Author and co-author articles for publication and present at scientific symposia and conferences.
  • Guide, train and advise lower-level researchers and students on techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Assist with grant and manuscript submissions as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Doctoral or equivalent terminal degree (by start date) in public administration, public policy, urban planning and policy, or related field completed within the last 5 years required.
  • A minimum of 3 years related research experience required; 4 years preferred.
  • Possess and apply advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods required. Strong quantitative analysis skills preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with statistical and spatial analysis software (e.g., R, STATA, and/or SPSS), data management, data analysis, and data visualization techniques required.
  • Research background in public finance, special districts, or municipal water rate setting preferred.

Intermediate Planner, Minnesota Department of Transportation

About the position: You will provide professional planning support and analysis related to for the Office of Transit and Active Transportation’s statewide multimodal planning activities; support coordination with partners and provide coordination for implementation of initiatives tied to walking, bicycling, and transit in Minnesota and within MnDOT. This position will be involved with US Bicycle Route planning, planning for mitigating the effects of climate change on people walking, and MnDOT’s Statewide Bicycle System Plan update.

 

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, or Political Science.

Financial Justice Research Director, Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund, Washington, D.C.

AFR has been called “the leading voice for Wall Street accountability” in Washington. Help us  continue and grow this important work. Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFREF) is  seeking a Financial Director Research Director to oversee and manage the research agenda, design,  and produce research materials, supervise research staff, and coordinate with communications,  campaign, and policy colleagues to fulfill AFR’s mission. 

AFREF played a leading role in winning passage of the Dodd Frank Financial Reform law and the  creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; and we are driving the fight for broader  transformations of the financial system to advance economic, racial, and social justice. AFREF’s staff  develops policy and strategies in collaboration with a coalition of more than 200 consumer, civil  rights, labor, community based, and other organizations, along with academics and other experts. 

The Financial Justice Research Director will draw on their own research, policy and advocacy  expertise and on the expertise of AFREF policy, communications, and campaigns staff, and that of  our coalition members to design and implement research projects and products advancing our policy  agenda addressing racial and economic inequality. They will manage our research team of three  additional staff members to write and produce both materials for direct distribution or publication  and tools for partners. The Financial Justice Research Director will: 

● Design and implement research projects across the range of AFR’s policy portfolio from  inception to publication 

● Translate complicated policy material into clear language and compelling stories for broader  audiences 

● Provide research guidance and support for federal and state legislative and regulatory issues  and campaigns 

● Manage research projects and supervise research staff  

● Produce finished advocacy materials including reports, policy briefs, factsheets, advocacy  letters, etc.

Policy Analyst/Senior Policy Analyst, Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund, Washington, D.C.

 Policy Analyst or Sr. Policy Analyst, housing, corporate power, and climate justice 

Join us in the fight to change the rules governing the economy, and make finance work for us, not against us. Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFREF) is seeking a Policy Analyst or Sr. Policy Analyst to work at the intersection of housing, corporate power, and climate justice. 

The Policy Analyst / Senior Policy Analyst will focus on the role of Wall Street firms and Wall Street practices in the affordable housing crisis, and support grassroots organizations work to confront and change them. They will staff AFREF’s coalition housing task force where goals include expanding homeownership, closing the racial homeownership gap, and preventing foreclosures. And they will work with our climate finance team to develop and promote housing policies that improve climate resilience and contribute to climate mitigation in ways that protect communities and consumers. Advancing racial equity will be an important focus of the project. They will shine a spotlight on abusive practices and the structures that drive them; find opportunities at the national level to highlight problems and lift up solutions; and identify Federal levers for change including regulatory and administrative action. 

The Policy Analyst / Senior Policy Analyst will work with AFREF colleagues and partner organizations to research and write materials exploring and explaining issues for a variety of audiences; analyze, respond to, and formulate regulatory and legislative policy proposals; and work with AFREF leadership, staff, and partners to develop and implement a policy agenda for change with housing and climate justice groups as key stakeholders.

Providing leadership and coordination for AFR’s coalitions on these issues, and facilitating collaboration among coalition partners to amplify key perspectives and messages of grassroots housing, environmental justice and climate organizations. 

Collaborating with partners to develop and implement advocacy strategies to advance our policy goals. 

Explaining policy issues to non-specialists and making connections to broader economic, racial, and social justice work. 

Representing AFR at meetings with regulators, legislators, and other policy makers, and with allies and coalition partners.

Identifying and developing relationships with partners who can contribute to our understanding and collaborate in advancing our policy goals. 

Communicating AFREF’s perspectives and policy positions to the press in collaboration with our communications staff. 

Ideal candidates will have:
