The Coordinating Planner will be responsible for  implementing the Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus Ordinance and managing and conducting City-wide complex planning projects such as Mayor Emanuel's Industrial Corridor Modernization Initiative. In addition, the planner will  assist with Chicago Neighborhoods Now annual reports and managing and conducting regional and neighborhood planning studies. Working with other bureaus in DPD, the Coordinating Planner will facilitate planning and development activities to promote and implement the City’s economic development, design, land use, and sustainability goals.

The Coordinating Planner will develop and conduct land use planning and economic feasibility studies and apprise senior management of land use policies and plans through detailed maps, reports and presentation materials. Other responsibilities include: 1) representing the City in meetings with business and community groups, 2) managing consultants conducting land use planning and economic feasibility studies, and 3) monitoring the implementation of public and private development projects.

DUTIES

  • Plan, design and  conduct large-scale planning studies and surveys impacting on land use, zoning, social and economic development issues 
  • Collect and analyze land use, zoning, social and economic development data 
  • Evaluate plans and implementation strategies prepared by the City, community groups, consultants and/or developers for feasibility and compliance with City development goals and prepare planning programs, position papers, maps and other graphic materials to advise senior management 
  • Coordinate planning efforts between Department bureaus, City departments, community organizations, sister governmental agencies and developers for the purpose of implementing project work plans 
  • Represent the department at public hearings and meetings to discuss proposed planning and redevelopment projects 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with private consultants, developers and community groups regarding the implementation of planning programs and projects 
  • Manage planning initiatives from original study design through the implementation of the plan’s recommendations 
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or a directly related field, plus five years of work experience in the development and management of major planning or research studies, including two of supervisory experience related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative is seeking an amazing entry-level urban designer/planner to join our main office outside Nashville, Tennessee. THE JOB
As a member of the TPUDC team, you will contribute your own skills and knowledge to a variety of projects, including:
  • Site planning and urban design;
  • Comprehensive planning;
  • Municipal master plans and strategic plans;
  • Creation of Form-Based Codes;
  • Graphic design and document production;
  • Marketing and outreach;
  • Research and development;
  • Administrative support.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and Urban Design;

Responsibilities

Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold at minimum a bachelor’s degree in Geography or Urban Planning or a Graduate Certification in GIS. The candidate must have a minimum of 7 years of experience as a GIS analyst and at least 2 years of experience as a manager or supervisor of a team. The candidate must have strong proficiency with ArcGIS 10.2 or above, Google Earth and Adobe Illustrator. Familiarity with SketchUp, VectorWorks or CAD, Adobe Photoshop/InDesign, Python scripts, C#/VB.NET programming or web development is a plus. Candidates will be tested on their proficiency with GIS tasks.

Location:  The position will be located in Clarion’s Chapel Hill office in Southern Village, but the successful candidate may also work closely with our Denver office.  Candidates must either live in the Chapel Hill area or be willing to relocate; daily telecommuting is not available for this position.  Some travel is required.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of related professional experience.  The candidate must be a strong writer with an eye for translating complex ideas and information into concise, user-friendly materials and documents.  In addition, the candidate should have excellent oral English communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking. Dual language skills are a plus.  Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcGIS required.  Working knowledge of Sketch-Up, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or other graphics programs is also required.

Van Meter Williams Pollack’s urban design work includes transit-oriented design; master planning and specific plans, design guidelines, and development prototyping. The Planning Division of the City of Urbana Community Development Department is accepting applications for an Urban Design Intern. Working closely with City Planning staff, the selected candidate will provide computer renderings that illustrate urban design and building form concepts for use in the Downtown design overlay district. These guidelines will become part of the City’s Downtown Urbana Plan, which will support preservation of the downtown’s historic character by ensuring that new development respects and enhances the City core.

Responsibilities: 
Specifically, the Urban Design Intern will provide renderings to illustrate architectural and urban design concepts such as recessed entryways, varied ground floor heights, different levels of façade glazing, awnings and signage, and varied levels of height and massing.

Who We’re Looking For:
• 
Candidates should be upper-level undergraduates (juniors/seniors) or graduate students in good standing, or recent graduates, in a relevant field such as Architecture or Urban Design.
• Proficiency using Google Sketch Up or other 3D drafting software. Use of other graphic design or drafting software such as Adobe Illustrator may also be considered.
• A strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite software is also required.
• Able to work with regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
• Able to completing work and projects in a thorough and timely manner.
• Able to understand and following directions from the supervisor and City staff, posted work rules, and procedures.
