Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Physical Planning and Design
Position DescriptionThe University of Michigan Urban and Regional Planning Program seeks an additional tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. In this search, we are looking for candidates with expertise in physical planning and design. We seek an individual with experience in diverse urban settings within the United States and beyond. The right person will have a genuine desire to help us continue integrating physical planning and design fully into a comprehensive planning program. Candidates should also be able to contribute to one of our other concentration and certificate areas: land-use and environmental planning; transportation planning; global and comparative planning; housing, community, and economic development; or real estate development.
Taubman College and Urban Planning at MichiganFor over 100 years the mission of Taubman College has been to prepare students for positions of responsibility within a wide spectrum of professions, organizations and institutions whose goals are to improve the quality of our lives and the built environment. The college offers professional degrees in urban and regional planning, architecture, and urban design as well as the Ph.D. in urban and regional planning and in architecture.
The Urban and Regional Planning Program at the University of Michigan empowers faculty, students, and community partners to promote social justice and enhance sustainability through urban and regional planning. QualificationsThe following qualifications are required:
- A graduate degree in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, or related field
- Strong content and methodological knowledge related to physical planning and design
- The demonstrated ability and desire to teach physical planning and design methods courses and studio courses
- A developing or established program of research, publication, and/or creative practice that cumulates to significant contributions to scholarship
The following qualifications are highly preferred:
- Experience teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level
- A sustained interest in collaborating with disciplinary and interdisciplinary colleagues to design and engage in research projects
- Commitment to research and publication that informs teaching and learning in a program with a diverse student body
- Familiarity with and capacity for developing and securing grants to support research
