Mission Statement: The Association for Energy Affordability, Inc. (AEA) is a not-for-profit education, training and energy services organization with the mission to promote energy affordability through energy efficiency. AEA collaborates with various organizations and networks, including Weatherization Assistance Providers, utilities, and government agencies, to improve energy efficiency for New Yorkers residing in low-and moderate-income multifamily buildings and small homes.
Position Summary: AEA seeks to add a Green Building Analyst to its growing Green New Construction team,which provides energy-efficiency design and construction solutions to affordable housing developers in New York State. The Green Building Analyst assists in providing building owners and developers with expertise that promotes high energy performance with a vision toward green or sustainable building design. Responsibilities: Under supervision, the Green Building Analyst is responsible for energy analysis and modeling of residential new and gut rehab construction projects.The Green Building Analyst collaborates with a variety of internal and external parties with a vision toward developing and implementing energy efficient and sustainabler esidential new construction projects. She or he evaluates new multifamily building designs and makes design recommendations to reduce energy consumption, minimize negative environmental impact, and promote healthyliving.
Responsibilitiesincludethefollowing,andaresubjecttochangeasneeded:
• Develop multifamily building energyreductionplans byanalyzing buildingdesignsinorder to maximizeenergyefficiency.
• Create energy-efficiency models in conformance with programguidelines utilizing building simulation software. Review construction documents and make recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.
• Engagein acollaborativeprocess with already established and/or new construction development teams comprised of building developers, architects, engineers, and/or general contractors in order to communicate and promote the benefits of high-performance, energy-efficient design.
• Makerecommendations to reduce energy consumption by evaluating potential technologies for building applications.
• Collaborate with development teams in preparing and submitting required reports to regulatoryagencies such as NYSERDA, NYSHCR and certifying bodies such as Enterprise, USGBC and PassiveHouse Institute
• Includes visits to construction sites with other members of AEA's Green Building steam and/or outside agents to engage in project oversight,testing and verification, including technical assessments.
• Work with project development teams to ensure compliance with targeted sustainability programs, such as NYSERDA, Enterprise Green Communities, LEED, Passive House, etc.
Qualifications/Skills:
• B.A. or B.S.with a major in Engineering, Architecture, Energy Management, EnvironmentalSciences, Urban Planning, or a related field.
• Strong computer software and analytical and computational skills required.
• Good communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to audiences of varying backgrounds.
• Demonstrated interestin and commitment to the principles of energy conservation and high performance, sustainable building design.
• Should have some technical knowledge regarding energy efficiency standards, green building standards and building science.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to maintain attention to detail and exercise good independent judgment.
• Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple projects and priorities within a team oriented office environment.
• Prior knowledge of modeling software (DOE-2, eQUEST, TREAT) preferred, but not required.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE or Passive House Standards, LEED, Enterprise Green Communities,andPassive House construction techniques ap lus.
• LEED Professional Accreditation or certification as a CEM, or Passive House Consultant orTradesperson a plus.
Physical Requirements:
An essential portion of the responsibilities and time of the Green Building Analyst position will be performing field-based responsibilities including construction oversight, testing and verification, building inspections and similar work. The occupant of this position must be able to bend, lift and carry up to 40lbs. in orderto transport, setup and operate building testing and verification equipment; ascend and descend stairs and ladders in order to travel from floor to floor; stand, walk and move about for extended periods of time; handle exposures to hot and cold temperatures, both outsideand inside; traverse rough surfaces, both inside and outside building properties; tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, mold, and other inhalants in order to conduct building inspections.
