ASSOCIATE PLANNER OR ASSISTANT PLANNER
Mintier Harnish, Sacramento, CA - (Salary: Negotiable) - Excellent job opportunity for an aspiring planner to work with a highly skilled team of planners on a diverse array of projects for both public and private sector clients throughout California. We are looking to fill one position at either the Assistant Planner or Associate Planner level. Mintier Harnish is a California planning consulting firm specializing in land use and local government planning, including general plans, housing elements, climate action plans, regional plans, specific plans, and special planning studies. Mintier Harnish is a small firm with a great working atmosphere. Our office is located in a Midtown Sacramento Victorian.
Responsibilities include:
• Conducting research and analysis, preparing maps, graphics, and reports; and facilitating public meetings for a variety of planning projects.
• Depending on level of experience: managing small- to medium-scale planning projects, delegating and supervising work of other planners, developing client relationships, and preparing marketing materials.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
• Associate Planner candidates must have a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from an accredited university and minimum two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelors degree in a related field and a minimum four years of relevant experience (combination of alternate education and experience will also be considered).
• Assistant Planner candidates must have a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning from an accredited university, or a Bachelors degree in a related field and a minimum two years of relevant experience (combination of alternate education and experience will also be considered).
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills; verbal and written communication skills; as well as strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to analyze and express information and data, and make correct inferences and draw accurate conclusions.
• Experience working on planning projects, including general plan updates, specific plans, climate action plans, housing elements, design guidelines, and/or zoning code updates.
• Familiarity with governmental organizations and procedures, California planning law, planning and environmental theory and practice.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Knowledge of Google SketchUp, Adobe InDesign, and other design tools are strongly desired.
• Experience with GIS analysis, including: developing and maintaining GIS databases; preparing and post processing digital maps and graphics; and developing, modeling, and interpreting GIS data. Applicants will be tested as part of the interview process to confirm GIS capabilities.*
