Program Coordinator - Harold Washington College

Who: Harold Washington College

What: The Program Coordinator (PC) is the heart of OMD’s Scholar Support Model, responsible for effectively managing a caseload of around 60 community college Scholars and ensuring their successful persistence and completion in college and the OMD Program, as well as a successful transition to a bachelor’s program or career.


Responsibilities: 

  • Implement OMD’s high-touch Scholar support model with fidelity to ensure Scholar academic, personal, and professional goals are being met and that Scholars are on-track to graduate within three years
  • Build rapport with Scholars and continuously engage and hold them accountable to OMD program expectations and requirements
    • Serve as a thought partner to assist Scholars in exploring solutions to problems and ensuring persistence in the face of obstacles that could derail progress toward goals
  • Promote scholar registration and attendance at relevant OMD and partner college programming.
  • Build relationships with campus stakeholders by attending campus programming and regularly meeting with student services staff, in order to leverage and strengthen Scholars’ networks of support
  • Maintain awareness of the type and availability of college and community resources and efficiently connect Scholars to the appropriate services
  • Coordinate with other OMD stakeholders, such as coach volunteers and tutors, ensuring that Scholars follow-up with these resources
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of OMD’s partner collaborations (e.g. Chicago Housing Authority Partners in Education PLUS)
    • Use Salesforce database to maintain accurate and timely data on Scholar interactions, grades and program participation to identify patterns in the scholar population and program performance
    • Gather and track Scholar deliverables such as student service usage, FAFSA and resume completion, 4-year college or job applications, and setting SMART goals
    • PCs are held to metrics including attempted and successful interactions with Scholars and other required deliverables
    • Plan and execute monthly Scholar development sessions, Scholar orientation, and other scholar development events in collaboration with OMD staff and campus partners.
    • Implement high quality, engaging programming aimed at building Scholar community and reinforcing growth mindset and non-cognitive skills
    • Represent OMD at schools, community organizations, and scholarship fairs
  • Facilitate information sessions for prospective Scholars as well as provisional admission meetings and workshops
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Scholar Recruitment to support recruitment targets and application processing

  • Qualifications:

  • 2+ years (or equivalent) work experience, preferably in education or human services
  • Experience having direct accountability for the achievements/outcomes of a group of individuals (caseload management experience is a plus)
  • Service fellowship experience such as AmeriCorps is a plus
  • Project Management – Proven success in a project leader role with multiple stakeholders
  • Communication – Strong verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences, especially adults and older youth
  • Data – Ability to make data-driven decisions

    Community Schools Initiative (CSI) External Partnerships Coach - Chicago Public Schools

    Who: Chicago Public Schools

    What: The Community Schools Initiative (CSI) External Partnerships Coach in the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS) assists with the administration of CPS Community Schools funded through 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grants held by external organizations. This individual will report to the Manager of the Community Schools Initiative (CSI) in the Office of Student Support and Engagement within OCCS.

    Responsibilities:

    • Serves as Chicago Public Schools centralized liaison to community-based organizations awarded 21st CCLC funding to implement the Community Schools model. Proactively manages relationships between CPS schools, CPS Central Office Departments, and partner organizations to support the needs of schools to maximize positive impact on students, families, and the community.
    • Leads professional development activities and technical assistance to participating CPS schools and 21st CCLC grantees to implement national best practices for Community Schooling which includes the use of the CSI Needs Assessment Toolkit and the CSI Self-Assessment Rubrics.
    • Supports CPS schools and partner organizations in the development of CSI Service and Sustainability Plans, documents that articulate the goals and priorities for each Community School and ensures fiscal responsibility and strong program implementation.
    • Reviews, approves, and monitors CSI Service Plans and school-level data entry of all CSI activities and generates regular budget spend and program outcome reports leveraging centralized CPS data systems (i. e., Cityspan and IMPACT).
    • Collects, analyzes, and distributes all data required for annual reports to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for every CPS school receiving CSI grant funding held by external organizations.
    • Performs regular school visits to Community Schools and leverages CSI observation tools during program hours to assess program offerings and delivery to assess program implementation and delivery of services.
    • Performs related duties as required.

    Qualifications:


    • B. A. required
    • Masters preferred

    • Minimum of three (3) to five (5 ) years of relevant work experience
    • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and school-community partnerships required
    • Experience in grants and program management is highly preferred
    • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated research, data analysis, and evaluation experience
    • Experience with CPS Cityspan and Student Information Systems, as well as IMPACT, Dashboard, and other CPS data systems highly preferred

    Project Planner - Friends of the Chicago River

    Who: Friends of the Chicago River

    What: A key member of the policy and planning team, the project planner plays a central role in supporting planning initiatives and programs that lead to systematic improvement of the Chicago River system and that meet Friends’ vision for the Chicago River system. The project planner works with the policy and planning team in responding to emerging and ongoing issues facing the river system and surrounding watershed communities. The project planner will help drive creative thinking and innovation to expand recognition of Friends as a thought-leader in future-focused watershed advocacy.

    Responsibilities:

    • With the oversight of the director of planning, manages the creation of the Strategic Watershed Land Use Plan project with input from a steering committee of partner organizations.

    • Supports the Chicago River Watershed Council, Wildlife Corridor Connectivity Action Plan, River Recovery and Conservation Plan, and other core planning and policy projects.

    • Provides input and creativity into these projects drawn on past experiences with watershed and/or environmental planning, analysis, and mapping.

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience directly related to this position, with additional professional experience preferred.

    Mathematica - Human Services Analyst, Research

    Who: Mathematica

    What: Mathematica is looking for analysts to join their team in the Human Services unit. Analysts are part of the professional staff that includes researchers from the fields of public policy, economics, and other social sciences, learning and improvement partners, strategy advisers, product innovators, and data scientists. They work on projects across domestic policy areas, which include family support, education, child development, labor, economic mobility, nutrition, criminal justice, and related topics.

    Responsibilities:

    • Engaging with diverse clients and stakeholders to build trust and rapport, gather input, provide high-quality work, thoughtful recommendations, and responsive communication
    • Translating research knowledge and experience into actionable, relevant information to support decision making and strategy development

    Peter's Fellowship - Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)

    Associate Research Analyst/Programmer - Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)

    What: The position is a Research Analyst/Programmer position at the associate level with advanced skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), scripting, and computational analysis related to large urban datasets.

      Qualifications:

      Program Associate, Thriving Communities - Smart Growth America (Remote/DC)

      • Research and writing: contributes research and content to the Coalition’s signature reports, such as Dangerous by Design and the Complete Streets Model Policy Report; drafts blog posts and newsletters; assists with the writing and editing of grant proposals; and helps to manage the National Complete Streets social media accounts.
      • Advocacy: prepares context to promote advocacy efforts on social media and through SGA blogs and prepares educational materials for the Coalition and Thriving Community Team’s advocacy work.
      • Workshop management: Manages the logistics for technical assistance projects or workshops.       1. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

      • 1.1. General Statement of Duties: This position performs professional planning duties in support of the positive development of the City of Mandan. 
      • 1.2. Supervision Received: Under direct supervision of the Planning and Engineering Director. 
      • 1.3. Supervision Exercised: Position has authority to direct the Planning and Engineering Department Administrative Assistant. 


      2. EXAMPLES OF WORK

      • 2.1. Leading role in assisting applicants, coordinating, compiling and organizing presentation information for Planning and Zoning Commission meetings. Presents the information compiled and includes their recommendation for each item. Items include platting, zoning, annexations and related variance requests. Takes items to City Commission for consideration after Planning and Zoning.  
      • 2.2. Acts as the city’s staff expert in Planning and Zoning related requests for information and advisement. Impart knowledge and opinion onto requestors of such information.    
      • 2.3. Assists the Planning and Engineering Director to develop appropriate master-planning for all of the city’s infrastructure improvements, both new and existing. Participates in planning of city’s infrastructure expansion and reconstruction projects and other duties as assigned by the Planning and Engineering Director
      • 2.4. Develops and recommends rule and policy changes related to all Planning and Zoning items. Constructs ordinances, resolutions, development agreements and other agreements as needed.  Traverses a political and complex environment with conflicting values and needs while striving to fulfill the adopted plans of the City.  
      • 2.5. Engages in and acts as the main point of contact for planning studies, typically led by the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), as assigned by the Planning and Engineering Director.  Facilitates implementation of a variety of plans, including the Mandan Land Use and Transportation Plan, Downtown Subarea Study, and Fringe Area Road Master Plan.  
      • 2.6. Performs, as required, clerical duties such as printing, compiling data, data input, photocopying, phone answering, scanning and filing.
      • 2.7. Provides staff support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of City Commissioners by reviewing applications, preparing reports and findings, and providing formal recommendation in written, oral, and presentation formats. Acts as City liaison for variety of committees and subcommittees surrounding land use, transportation, downtown revitalization, and general community health and wellbeing.   Provides input and direction to consultants working on a variety of plans and studies.  
      • 2.8. Responsible for processing a variety of application types to include annexations, special use permits, preliminary and final plats, zoning map/text amendments, variances, and street vacations.  Creates, manages, and maintains the City’s land use maps including zoning, future land use, and subdivisions, and assists other departments including Assessors and Building with mapping as needed.  
      • 2.9. Provides guidance to future applicants on application timing, additional submittals, and explanation of rules and regulations relevant to the respective future application, as needed.  Processes a variety of administrative land use permits for applicants and ensure compliance with regulations at the time of application.  
      • 2.10. Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required. 


      3. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      • 3.1. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning. Social Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related field from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related field preferred.   


      • 3.2. Experience: Experience working in a local government planning related field for a minimum of three years required. Experience working in a local government planning related field for a minimum of five years preferred.  AICP Certification is preferred, but not required.  


      • 3.3. Required Knowledge and Abilities:
        • 3.3.1. Extensive knowledge of best practices of the planning process as it relates to land use and transportation.  
        • 3.3.2. Extensive knowledge of best practices surrounding conventional zoning.    
        • 3.3.3. Experience presenting at public hearings commissions and boards following the Robert’s Rules of Order. 
        • 3.3.4. Extensive ability to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral formats.  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
        • 3.3.5. Knowledge of computers and job related software programs including Microsoft standard suite and mapping programs such as Geographic Information System (GIS).
        • 3.3.6. Knowledge of standard construction permitting procedures and general construction practices.

      What: Performs professional level municipal planning and project management work over a variety of subject areas. Must be versed in the principles and practices of local government planning.       ISTC is seeking to hire a Visiting Senior Scientific Specialist, Coastal Studies to provide scientific, technical, and project management support for coastal management program (CMP) objectives to address coastal hazards and build community resilience, improve coastal habitats, and enhance sustainable economic development and coastal recreation. This position is based in Chicago, Illinois.

      Major Duties and Responsibilities:
      • Help coastal communities improve their capacity to prepare for and manage coastal hazards including shoreline change and flooding Assist with planning, coordination, implementation, and facilitation of regional working groups.
      • Translate scientific information for non-technical audience and develop communication tools such as visualizations (e.g., maps, videos), blogs, public presentations, and field trips that explain coastal processes and hazards.
      • Develop resources for stakeholders that support more effective planning and decision-making. Partner with federal, state, and local agencies on Great Lakes or lake wide resilience efforts.
      • Work with federal, state, and local agencies to improve coordination, understand funding opportunities, and determine strategies to improve coastal management.
      • Assist in developing responses to federal, state, commercial, and foundation funding opportunities.
      • Develop project scopes and work plans, ensure timely and effective project implementation. Prepare or assist with development and preparation of grant and contract reports.
      • Monitor progress on project outcomes and deliverables.
      • Prepare and present project reports.
      • Assist and coordinate with staff on coastal geology and shoreline change monitoring and studies.
      • Support new and ongoing projects to protect coastal habitat on public owned lands.
      • Design, develop, and support mapping projects and products to improve spatial understanding of coastal areas.
      • Provide communications expertise to build the CMP brand, share programmatic, partner, and grantee successes, and raise the profile of Illinois as a coastal tourism destination
      • Perform project and content management to improve the CMP website or other topic specific sites.
      • Build the program’s social media presence.
      • Assist with monthly coastal newsletter.
      • Develop other communication pieces for partners, articles, websites, and social media.
      • Plan and attend trainings, workshops, professional meetings, and other opportunities to increase skills and knowledge.
      • Work jointly with a number of varied constituencies while observing standards of professional conduct. 
      • Communicate with people within and outside the Survey, representing the Survey to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
      • Contribute in the areas of education, outreach, and/or other service to the Survey, PRI, the University of Illinois, and the state of Illinois.
      • Enhance the reputation of the Survey and PRI at the state, national, and international level.
      • Keep abreast of developments in this discipline.
      • Perform other duties as needed in order to further the mission and goals of the Survey, PRI, and the University of Illinois.
      Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in marine or coastal science or management, coastal geology, environmental sciences such as biology, management, policy or related discipline. Alternate degree fields will be accepted/considered based upon the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position. At least two years’ experience working in the field of coastal or Great Lakes management, policy, or related field with bachelor’s degree. Experience writing or preparing clear and understandable scientific or technical reports, proposals, public communication pieces, and giving oral presentations. Complex project and partnership management experience. Must have an understanding of Lake Michigan or Great Lakes ecological systems, coastal and great lakes environmental policies or regulatory framework. Complex problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to organize and execute complex projects and meet deadlines. Effective communication, personal relations, collaboration, organizational, teamwork, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a diverse and fast-paced work environment consisting of multiple and changing priorities with stringent deadlines, under minimal supervision. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in commonly-employed software and databases. This position will involve traveling to attend meetings and conduct environmental field work. Field work will include driving to and from research sites, some of which may under adverse conditions (heat, humidity, biting insects, etc.). Must be willing to travel overnight within and outside the state of Illinois. Position involves lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.

      Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in marine or coastal science or management, coastal geology, environmental sciences such as biology, management, policy, or related discipline. Alternate degree fields will be accepted/considered based upon the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position. Experience using GIS software including GIS spatial and temporal analysis. Experience creating clear graphics for complex information and using social media for strategic communication needs. Experience with stakeholder engagement, broad public outreach, and human dimensions or social science techniques.

      This is a full-time, visiting academic professional, grant supported, 12-month position subject to the continued availability of funding and programmatic need. Position may become a regular, non-visiting position at a later date depending on funding and programmatic need. The starting date is negotiable and the salary is commensurate with experience.
