SF Housing Action Coalition Seeks a Full-Time Community Organizer


The SF Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC) advocates for well-designed, well-located housing for ALL levels of affordability in San Francisco. We are a small but mighty civic engagement nonprofit, with a 16-year history and 200 members, all working to increase the City's supply of housing. We believe more housing means more choices and better housing solutions for all San Franciscans.
The SF Housing Action Coalition is hiring a Community Organizer to identify and motivate San Franciscans to join the housing conversation. By amplifying individual voices in support of building new housing, we can change the dialogue to address our housing affordability crisis.
The Community Organizer will gain first-hand experience on the ins-and-outs of local housing and land use policy and decision-making in San Francisco. This is a terrific opportunity for a candidate with stellar interpersonal and communication skills, keen interest in neighborhoodand coalition-building and a strong belief in building new housing in San Francisco. The Community Organizer should have a good understanding of San Francisco politics and how to best leverage resident's interest into political action and advocacy. This is a full-time position that often involves night meetings and weekend outreach events.
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Identify and mobilize individuals through grassroots outreach to become local advocates for new housing in their neighborhoods
● Empower individuals, residents, families, and local businesses to speak up for new housing in their neighborhoods
● Grow and manage a database with newly identified neighbors and project supporters
● Write and publish community-focused-communications (including emails, blog posts, editorials, action alerts and social media)
● Manage easy-to-use online tools for neighbors to express their support to City commissioners, elected officials and local decision makers

● Interest in San Francisco's history and politics
● Skilled at listening in order to understand neighborhood needs
● Good organizational skills
● Excellent communicator, both written and verbal
● Creative thinker
● Confident public speaker
● Level-headed, upbeat and compassionate to neighbors needs
● Must be able to attend early morning, evening and weekend meetings and activities
● Ability to move easily around the city to attend meetings and neighborhood outreach
● Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

● Graphics design (Adobe Creative Suite)
● Wordpress website management
