The City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with a growing population of 38,816, is seeking to fill the Director of Development Services position. Located along the Mississippi River and Interstate 55, and home to Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau is a regional education, retail and healthcare hub with a daytime population exceeding 100,000.
The City of Cape Girardeau operates under a council-manager form of government with the Mayor elected at-large and six City Council members elected from their respective Wards. The City has a $54.2 million operating budget with 395 full-time employees, a $25 million capital projects budget and a Standard & Poor’s National Municipal Bond rating of “A+.” Major departments include Citizen Services, Development Services, Fire, Police, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works, along with a regional airport.
The Director of Development Services is appointed by, and reports directly to, the Deputy City Manager as a part of the City’s top management team.
The successful candidate for Director of Development Services will be responsible for directing the activities of the Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Inspections and Planning divisions. The position is responsible for more than 25 full-time personnel, a $25 million Capital Improvement Projects budget and a $3+ million departmental operating budget.
A Bachelor’s Degree is required in public or business administration, planning, engineering or a related field, along with at least five years of progressive municipal government experience. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
The starting salary is in the low $70’s with the mid-range at $91,000.
