Mobility Justice Manager, The Equiticity Racial Equity Movement

Position Description

The Mobility Justice Manager will be responsible for leading two major initiatives:

  • Advancing “The Go Hub: A Mobility Community Center” in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Westside of Chicago. The Go Hub is a space where neighborhood residents can create community around mobility justice, connecting, in a culturally and contextually relevant way, to both the “hardware” and “software” designed to increase mobility in predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods. The Go Hub hardware includes transportation infrastructure, shared vehicles, micromobiity devices, placemaking, Tactical Urbanism, and other emerging mobility technologies. The Go Hub software includes community mobility rituals, such as weekly community bicycle rides and neighborhood walking and scooter tours. Access is intended to be racially equitable, fair, and just, as well as affordable, convenient, and safe. The goal of the Associate is to position Equiticity to execute The Go Hub. As a result of the Associate’s planning work, partnership development, community engagement, program implementation, and the related tactical neighborhood work in North Lawndale, they will be laying the groundwork to initiate both software and hardware elements of The Go Hub that can be accomplished in the short term, with limited resources.

  • Supporting Equiticity’s participation in the Transportation Equity Network (TEN), a coalition of community groups, advocates, civic organizations, and other partners that seek to advance mobility justice in the Chicago region. TEN is supported by both philanthropic grants and contracts with public agencies that are striving to better include equity within their work. Equiticity serves as a co-chair of TEN and is highly engaged in each of its activities.

In addition, the Manager will be asked to support Equiticity’s work in other ways based on opportunities and challenges as they occur, as directed by its Board of Directors.

The Manager will report to Equiticity’s leadership and Board of Directors. Fiscal sponsorship of this position is provided by the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI), and the Manager will formally be an employee of BUFI. This is a full-time position, and the Manager will receive benefits through BUFI.

The Manager will also interact closely with the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT), who serves as the facilitator and lead fundraiser for TEN. The Manager should expect to work with CNT’s Director of Transportation Equity (Heidy Persaud) on a day-to-day basis and frequently interact with CNT’s Vice President of Government Affairs (Jacky Grimshaw) as well.

The Manager is expected to be receive a salary of approximately $65,000 annually, although this estimate is flexible based on experience.

Responsibilities

For the Go Hub, the Manager will be expected to implement initial programming, including:

  • Enroll 100 community members in The Go Hub inaugural cohort.

  • Seek formal support for The Go Hub from the City of Chicago, other government entities, local businesses, and other organizations.

  • Host frequent Community Mobility Rituals (CMRs) to engage people directly in a series of walking and bicycling tours in Chicago’s neighborhoods and parks. Organize at least weekly neighborhood walking tours and monthly community bike rides.

  • Create an Asset Based Community Development map of North Lawndale, through a comprehensive community partnership model.

  • Contribute to neighborhood and market racial equity analyses.

  • Find a partner to help implement a workforce development and training programs, including bicycle mechanics, e-bike and scooter systems repair, bicycle manufacturing, community ride marshalling, and urban delivery.

  • Execute other program development, asset-based community development and engagement, including active programming, such as youth bike teams, adult bicycle clubs, and a variety of mobility-related classes.

  • Overall, create community power building necessary to develop a neighborhood-based, mobility justice advocacy coalition.

For TEN, the Manager will be expected to:

  • Assist other co-chairs of TEN to organize group meetings and support the operations of the full TEN group.

  • Participate in contracts between TEN and public agencies, representing the racial equity priorities of Equiticity.

  • In external communications, speak on behalf of TEN, demonstrate the value of the TEN approach, and assist in pursuing new funding for TEN.

  • Coordinate closely with CNT on each of these activities.

To more broadly support Equiticity, the Manager will be expected to:

  • Implement an advocacy campaign to finalize Equiticity’s Racial Equity Statement of Principle, with broad engagement from individuals and organizations.

  • Respond to opportunities to advance Equiticity’s mission as identified by the Equiticity Board of Directors or the Associate themselves.

Qualifications

The Manager is expected to have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Commitment to mobility justice and racial equity, and past experience working on these and similar topics.

  • Ability and willingness to proactively and independently advance the goals of Equiticity as described above.

  • Familiarity with and ideally existing connections in the North Lawndale community, and the Chicago region more broadly.

  • Demonstration of the above through a combination of professional, educational, or volunteer experience.

  • Strong skills in communication, community engagement, and community organizing.

  • No specific educational requirements or years of experience are required for this position. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree are preferred, but lived experience that qualifies the candidate for this position will be considered as well.

Engagement Manager, MxD

What: The Engagement Manager will be responsible for leading MxD’s programming initiatives as well as managing a range of engagement and communications activities. Programming responsibilities will include developing and executing a strategy for in-person, virtual, and hybrid workshops and webinars to deliver relevant content to MxD’s manufacturing ecosystem. Member communication support will include activities like developing member success stories, sourcing member insights, and grant writing. Support for engagement activities will include managing member inquiries, providing onsite assistance for member events and preparing the senior leadership team for a variety of member interactions. The ideal candidate will have a proven record for delivering highly successful thought leadership and experiential events and would have demonstrated success working cross-functionally with technical/engineering and marketing teams. Position Responsibilities

  • Leads a holistic programming strategy that aligns programs with marketing and project strategies driving engagement prior, during, and after events
  • Leads the project management of event logistics and planning including managing partners, speakers, and contracted resources/vendors as well as aligning with the communication and the corporate events teams on all event-related communications and logistics
  • Collaborates with the MxD programs and technical teams to research and identify potential event speakers, exhibitors, and attendees
  • Explores and assesses new event opportunities to drive engagement goals and increased event ROI
  • Develops externally facing presentations, grant applications, talking points, and other materials for MxD’s senior leadership team
  • Supports membership engagement through building and maintaining relationships and identifying additional opportunities for them to deepen their involvement

Job Description

In this position you will join a one-of-kind dynamic and unique team that develops innovative information to support decision-makers on the current and future state of the region’s transportation system. 

An Assistant Analyst/Modeler supports the Transportation Modeling group in maintaining, operating and improving the agency’s set of modeling analysis tools. This position also supports the development and testing of innovative modeling procedures to improve the responsiveness of the agency’s modeling tools to support the guiding principles of ON TO 2050: inclusive growth, resilience and prioritized investment. Work will focus on the collection, preparation and analysis of data necessary to support CMAP’s modeling tools and research activities.  Tasks will also include providing assistance with travel demand model runs to support the long-range plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, individual transportation project studies and to satisfy federal Air Quality Conformity requirements. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Identifies, collects and maintains data to support agency travel demand modeling efforts and policy analyses.
  • Conducts basic to moderate complexity analyses and investigations using GIS, statistical analysis, or travel demand modeling software.
  • Prepares reports, maps, and graphics to effectively convey analysis findings.
  • Prepares computer procedures to automate analyses and evaluations.
  • Conducts quality assurance on methods and procedures.

Construction Initiatives Program Coordinator, Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership

This is a grant-funded position with possibility of renewal up to three years. Qualified candidates will coordinate all activities of the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership’s (The Partnership) construction sector initiatives. Coordinators will help execute The Partnership’s key strategies of:

        • Improving equity in the construction industry by increasing the number of historically underrepresented individuals entering apprenticeships and other skilled trade occupations;

        • Raising the profile of sustainable long-term career pathways in construction; and

        • Supporting employers in playing an integral role in the system of building and sustaining talent.

The Program Coordinator(s) help manage a coordinated regional workforce initiative with up to 20 subgrantees. This includes all work and contracts for the operation of ConstructionWorks, a public-private partnership funded by the Illinois Tollway. The coordinators will effectively manage relationships with Affiliate Partners and communicate all contract activities and outcomes both internally and externally, including regular reporting to the CTA, the Illinois Tollway, and additional funders.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the administration of The Partnership’s strategy for investing in construction training, work- based learning/apprenticeships, and other projects that foster workforce development in the construction sector in the Chicagoland region.
  • Supports strategies that create a strong construction workforce pipeline, particularly with groups underrepresented in the industry.
  • Promotes innovative strategies that improve job quality and career advancement for the entry level and incumbent construction workforce.
  • Coordinates efforts among all subgrantees and affiliate partners on full range of activities, including community engagement and recruitment; pre-apprenticeship training; placement and retention services; job development; technical assistance; policy and strategic planning; and engagement of regional employers, unions, and government and community stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership, oversight, and technical assistance to subgrantees.
  • Manages contract deliverables and invoicing, enacts reporting procedures, and troubleshoots any issues that arise.
  • Supports staffing of construction industry advisory committees, composed of construction businesses and industry groups, organized labor, government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with other Partnership teams including Fiscal, Programs, Compliance, Communications, Business Relations and Economic Development and Policy.
  • Manages program outcomes against goals and communicates expectations and outcomes with subcontractors and funders.
Qualifications:

  • Must have working understanding of the construction sector, including skilled trades occupations, regional employer landscape, regional labor unions and industry organizations, and regional construction buyers.
  • Must possess strong understanding of workforce development practices and programming, regional community college systems, union apprenticeship programs, pre-apprenticeship programs and sector- based workforce development initiatives.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree supplemented by two (2) years of full-time professional paid work experience in program management, workforce development, construction, and/or other federally/state funded grant programs OR six (6) years of equivalent combination of professional work experience, training, and education; and
  • Two (2) years of full-time paid professional work experience with quantitative analysis, strategic planning, working with senior officials in the private or public sector, facilitating meetings, making presentations, and managing projects is preferred; and
  • Ability to travel throughout the region, state and nationally, for events, conferences, and meetings, if necessary.

• Support the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in developing and executing a recruiting and marketing strategy for the college’s programs that includes social media, virtual, and in-person strategies. This recruitment strategy will attract top students and ensure that each incoming class meets the size, quality, diversity and financial goals established by the school.

• Work with college and department staff to develop and maintain high quality marketing materials and recruitment presentations that communicate the strengths of the college’s degree programs to prospective students, parents, and others. Develop and maintain an innovative social media presence for the college in support of student recruitment.

• Lead the development of college-specific recruitment programming including open houses, information sessions, and webinars. Represent CUPPA at on- and off-campus student recruitment events and programs. Work with departmental and college staff and UIC’s recruitment team to set targets and develop an annual calendar for recruitment activities.

• Serve as an information resource for and respond to inquiries from prospective students through various mediums (e.g., individual appointments, telephone, email and social networking).

• Actively participate in special event and program planning and implementation.

• Represent CUPPA on various college- and campus-wide recruitment committees and initiatives.

• Track and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and make recommendations for program changes

and enhancements.

• Supervise, train, and support student workers and alumni volunteers, as necessary.

• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in urban planning, public administration, public policy, higher education, or closely related field preferred.

• A minimum of two years’ experience in student counseling, admissions, and/or UIC undergraduate or graduate campus involvement or leadership.

• Demonstrated experience with developing and managing social media and electronic mass communication campaigns.

• Demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to working with diverse populations.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Excellent presentation skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

• Experience with public service curricula and students preferred.

• Working knowledge of SLATE preferred.

Strategic Planner, Chicago Transit Authority

Who: Chicago Transit Authority

What: Under direction, supports the development of comprehensive transportation plans that serve as a guide for future transportation projects and development of long-term goals and strategic objectives for CTA. Works with other Planning staff and other departments/agencies as needed in the oversight and execution of planning and project activities pertaining to capital investments, bus and rail system improvements, transit-focused urban planning and public policy strategies, and transit-focused research regarding customer demographics, travel behavior, and preferences. Assists in all areas of Strategic Planning for the CTA.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of long-range system modernization, enhancement and expansion projects.  
    • Performs analysis and reporting on various Planning projects.
    • Coordinates with various CTA departments and staff, outside consulting services, and other governmental agencies.
    • Synthesizes industry knowledge and research findings to support applications in initiatives such as corridor studies, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rail capital projects, streetscape initiatives, Transit Oriented Development studies, and urban design.
    • Assists in the development of transit funding strategies, including Federal and state grant opportunities, and other innovative financing projects.
    • Represents the CTA in meetings with other government agencies.
    • Assists in public outreach efforts and stakeholder coordination to support project goals.
  • Assists in the management of major capital project planning  studies, collection of data relevant to transit planning, and analysis of ridership and demographic data. 
    • Assists with review of consultant deliverables and contract management activities.
    • Assists in collection of survey data and providing reports and summaries to distribute results of survey and other data analyses.
    • Monitors and reports on project progress to ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope and budget.
    • Prepares project reports for management review.
  • Performs various ad hoc policy analysis and other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 

•             Working knowledge of the principles and concepts of transit planning fundamentals.Working knowledge of the data and information sources relevant to transportation planning.

•             Working knowledge in interpreting architectural/engineering drawings of project plans.

•             Working knowledge of the methods of effective design and delivery of presentations.

•             Working knowledge of project management principles and practices.

•             Working knowledge of the practices and principles in economic development and land-use planning preferred.

•             Working knowledge of the practices and principles in market research survey design and analysis preferred.

•             Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to area

of work.

•             General knowledge of the use and familiarity with visualization, service planning, ridership, and online survey tools.

•             General knowledge and understanding of statistics. Academic/professional familiarity with statistical models/methods (inferential statistics) and intermediate SQL skills preferred. 

•             Strong analytic and quantitative skills.

•             Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skills.

•             Intermediate GIS skills including understanding of geodatabases and experience working with large publicly available data sets preferred.
