Immediate opening for Programs Coordinator

The Will County Governmental League (WCGL), one of the metropolitan Chicago regional Councils of Government (COGs) is seeking applications for the position of Programs Coordinator. This entry level, full-time position will be engaged in the WCGL’s Transportation and Member programs. The WCGL represents 32 member communities in one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Will County is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago, has an area of 837 square miles, and a population of over 750,000.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in managing the WCGL Surface Transportation Program (STP), Will Electric Aggregation Group, and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Managing the STP program includes supervising the preparation and processing of League members applications for federal funding, recommending priorities for various federally funded projects and maintaining records on STP funds allocated to and expended by the League through the program.

The WCGL runs the largest municipal electric aggregation program in Illinois, the Programs Coordinator will provide staff and technical support to members of the Will Electric Aggregation Group and the WCGL Utilities Committee. This position will serve as a point of contact for the Will Electric Aggregation Program for elected officials, WCGL members and the general public.

The WCGL is responsible for the programming of all federal and state funded transportation projects in the regions Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Programs Coordinator will assist in active program management for projects in the TIP. The position will regularly coordinate with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to keep the TIP accurate and projects on schedule.

This position will also be responsible for primary staffing of the WCGL’s Public Works Training Program. The Programs Coordinator will organize local and web based training opportunities related to public works and transportation.

A degree in planning, public administration, political science, or related field required. Knowledge of regional transportation and planning related issues desired, local knowledge helpful. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task are essential to success in this position. Regional travel required. This is an entry-level position with a compensation package based on the individual qualifications of the candidate.
