The City of Torrance is looking for a results driven team member who wants the opportunity to use their skills to make an impact on the community and carry out the City’s General Plan. Planning Assistants perform entry-level work in municipal planning and environmental review. Applicants should have experience in compiling, recording, and analyzing data for planning activities; conducting field surveys and conducting project site analysis; preparing maps, charts, graphs, and diagrams for use in planning studies; reviewing proposals and applications for development.
Minimum Requirements:
Any combination of education/experience that is equivalent to:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a major in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Administration, Engineering or a related field; and
Experience: Six (6) months of MUNICIPAL planning experience in one or more of the following areas: planning, redevelopment, general plan and research, design/development administration, and/or housing activities.
License: A valid California Class C Driver's License.
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Ability to read blueprints
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to make presentations in a public setting
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work with time constraints
- Ability to work occasional weekends and nights
- A high comfort level with technology
