Description and Desired Qualifications 
CH2M HILL Environmental Transportation Planner- Chicago, IL 
The challenge? Provide planning support for transportation and other infrastructure projects. Our Environmental Planner career pat provides you with the opportunity to play a roe in all stages of performing alternative analysis researching and writing technical reports for NEPA documents, preparing permit applications, and participating in public involvement processes for a variety of transportation and other projects. Assignments are typically well-defined, vary in scope, and are best accomplished by a highly organized, detail-oriented planner with excellent writing skills, practical experience and working knowledge of NEPA and other environmental regulations.

Our Environmental Planners: 
  • Have the ability to research, analyze and compile data Review and prepare written environmental documentation and other related materials
  • Effectively communicate with multiple disciplines
  • Staff in this position work both individually and as contributing team members to accomplish assignments and tasks.
  • Staff in this position may also act as deputy environmental task lead on larger projects or environmental task lead on smaller projects.
  • Contact with clients will occur on occasion.
  • Contact with public agency staff will occur as a result of permit coordination activities.
  • Staff in this position may occasionally be expected to work on project proposals and provide other business development and client relationship support.
  • This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications 

  • B.S. Urban, Regional, or Environmental Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or related field

  • Environmental Planning related course work

  • 1-2 years competency with transportation and other linear infrastructure projects

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Awareness of NEPA environmental documentation and environmental permitting processes

  • An affinity for understanding spatial relationships

Preferred Qualifications 

  • M.S. in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, or related field

  • Proficiency at preparing NEPA documentation

  • Experience with transportation and other linear infrastructure projects

  • Competence with the analysis of land use and other build environment elements

  • Experience and comfort handling public involvement and agency coordination interface with stakeholders and professionals

  • Experience with Illinois and/or midwest permitting procedures
