The Senior Planner supports the University Planner and Senior Director of Transportation, providing high-level planning support for campus master planning, facility site planning, and community transportation projects. The Senior Planner works with colleagues in the Campus Planning Office, Transportation Services, Project Administration, and across the university in carrying out a broad range of planning initiatives that focus on campus systems including transportation, housing, college/unit plans, facilities, landscape, and utilities. The Senior Planner will track local municipal and county planning initiatives and their relevance to the University’s planning efforts.

Responsibilities include planning efforts focused on multi-modal transportation options and matters of access, planning associated with department-specific master plans, planning associated with a specific building projects, and supporting university-wide sustainability efforts.
The Senior Planner position requires a unique and diverse set of skills. In a given day, this position may act as planner, designer, project manager, administrator, or analyst. This position will be actively engaged in local municipal and county planning initiatives, especially University-community transportation planning efforts.
May act on behalf of the University Planner or Senior Director of Transportation in select cases.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban design, landscape architecture, architecture, public policy, engineering or related field. At leastfive years of land use, regional, or municipal planning is required. Experience dealing with municipal issues,preparing planning analyses and documents, and presentations required. Excellent graphic, organizational, writing, and analytical skills are necessary, as well as the ability to create and make presentations to a wide variety of audiences and the public. Ability to work well in a team environment, flexibility, and capability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules is essential. Must demonstrate the organizational values of truth, respect, teamwork, integrity and excellence.

Expertise with both analytical and graphic software, as well as experience and facility with GIS, database, and desktop publishing and business software.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in planning or related field is preferred. Seven to ten years of relevant planning experience desired. Experience, expertise, and/or interest with transportation planning in a university or municipal environment, Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is desired. Urban and site design skills relevant to landscape, public realm and/or active transportation systems are also preferred. Grant writing and administration helpful. AICP and or LEED accredited professional certification.
