The Humphrey School seeks applicants for a position at the Assistant Professor level who focus on public and/or nonprofit institutions, organizations, or networks. Planning Liaison - Will County, IL - Deadline 9/29

Immediate Opening for Planning Liaison

The Will County Governmental League (WCGL), one of the metropolitan Chicago regional Councils of Government (COGs) is seeking applications for the position of Planning Liaison. This entry level, full-time position will be engaged in the WCGL’s Transportation and Member programs. The WCGL represents 35 member communities in one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Will County is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago, has an area of 837 square miles, and a population of over 750,000.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in managing the WCGL Surface Transportation Program (STP), Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and running training opportunities. Managing the STP program includes supervising the preparation and processing of League members applications for federal funding, recommending priorities for various federally funded projects and maintaining records on STP funds allocated to and expended by the League through the program.

The WCGL is responsible for the programming of all federal and state funded transportation projects in the regions Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Planning Liaison will assist in active program management for projects in the TIP. The position will regularly coordinate with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to keep the TIP accurate and projects on schedule.

This position will also be responsible for primary staffing of the WCGL’s Public Works Training Program. The Planning Liaison will organize local and web based training opportunities related to public works and transportation.

A degree in planning, public administration, political science, or related field required. Knowledge of regional transportation and planning related issues is desired, and local knowledge is helpful. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills for interactions with elected officials and the business community, as well as strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Regional travel required. This is an entry-level position with a compensation package based on the individual qualifications of the candidate.

PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Commercial Corridor Manager, the Economic Development Specialist assists Common Council members in coordinating economic development initiatives in the City of Milwaukee’s neighborhood commercial districts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop new and innovative strategies for commercial development throughout the City.
  •  Prepare marketing materials and establish working relationships with commercial real estate brokers for the purpose of marketing neighborhood commercial district opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain regular in-person and telephone contact with members of the Common Council, to understand their perspectives and insights regarding development initiatives and concerns within their districts.
  • Arrange meetings and events that provide platforms for communication between Council members and businesses and commercial property owners in their districts.
  • Work with City departments and other appropriate parties to resolve business and property owner concerns identified by Council members.
  • Manage the City’s relationship with assigned Business Improvement Districts (BIDS).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, business administration, real estate, marketing, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Three years of program formulation and project implementation experience in the areas of economic development and/or commercial real estate development. 
  3. Valid driver’s license and possession of a properly insured vehicle for use on the job is required at time of appointment and throughout employment.
Equivalent combinations of education and professional experience will be considered.

CURRENT SALARY

The current salary range (Pay Range 2GX) for City of Milwaukee residents is $51,469-$72,063 annually, and the non-resident salary range is $50,206-$70,295. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking a scholar of public administration to fill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be based in the Department of Political Science, and will be integral to the development of the University's new Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program.

The successful candidate will have a well-developed research agenda in the area of public administration and/or public policy, a record of peer-reviewed publications, and a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship. He/she will also demonstrate a strong commitment to public service education, an ability to work with a diverse student body, and capacity to teach courses in at least two of following areas: public administration, public budgeting and finance, public and non-profit management and leadership, and public policy analysis.

The MPA program is an interdisciplinary initiative of the University's College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The College has experienced transformative growth over the past four years, including the hiring of over 50 new faculty members, a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and the addition of several new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs. Beyond its core curriculum, the MPA program will offer specialized options in justice administration, public humanities and the arts, and human services. The program will begin admitting students and offering courses for Fall 2016, and will be fully operational for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The Department of Political Science features a growing and diverse body of faculty with research and teaching interests that cut across different geographical, methodological and thematic areas. The department has experienced significant enrollment growth in its undergraduate major (which includes specializations in American Politics, Political Communication, International Politics, and Law & Politics), and has played an integral role in the College's interdisciplinary graduate programs, including its PhD in Global Studies, Masters degree program in Peace and Conflict Studies, and the new MPA. Department faculty are engaged in leadership roles for a range of campus-wide research and experiential learning initiatives, including the Model UN Program, Emerging Scholar Program, the UMass Lowell Center for Public Opinion, Climate Change Initiative, and International Study Abroad Programs.

Cleveland State University is searching for active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University seeks applicants for a College Lecturer in Urban Planning to help provide education in the area of urban planning practice. We seek someone with the ability to contribute to our national ranking in urban policy/city management and to support the university’s mission of engaged learning. The successful candidate will enhance the existing strengths of our academic programs including urban planning, neighborhood and community development, housing policy, real estate, sustainability, and historic preservation. The Department of Political Science and the Department of Public Administration and Policy in the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs invite applications for a joint tenure-track assistant or associate professorship starting in August 2016. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to examine and use large and/or untraditional data, with a specialization in one or more of the following areas: unstructured data, text analysis, machine learning, large network data, visualization, clustering, or other advanced computational methods. A Ph.D. in political science, public administration, public policy, sociology, statistics, computer science, operations research, or another appropriate discipline is required. This position is part of a university-wide initiative to recruit new faculty across disciplines to enhance the University’s ability to engage in Informatics-based instruction and world-changing scholarship.

Assistant / Associate Professor, Global Public Management
Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany (SUNY) is seeking a colleague with expertise in the management of international organizations (IOs) and/or international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs) to teach in a new professional Master of International Affairs program with courses offered in classrooms in both Albany and New York City as well as using synchronous distance learning (e.g. videoconference). We welcome applications from candidates with disciplinary expertise in public management, nonprofit management, business management, public administration, international relations, political science, sociology or an allied field. We are open to multiple areas of research and teaching with respect to IOs and INGOs, but have a particular interest in those who focus on the “nuts and bolts” challenges of operating IOs and INGOs – from strategic planning and policy implementation to budgeting and fundraising to management of voluntary and paid workforces to management of international development and humanitarian assistance programs to the challenges of cross-cultural management.
The successful candidate will have primary appointment in the Department of Public Administration and Policy with an option for a joint secondary appointment in the Department of Political Science. Appointments will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Exceptional candidates may be appointed at the associate professor level. Appointment begins in August 2016. Candidates should demonstrate a substantive policy specialization. A Ph.D. in public policy, economics, sociology, political science, public administration, or other appropriate discipline is required. Teaching is predominately at the graduate level and includes courses in policy analysis, policy process, or program evaluation, and other substantive policy courses. Successful candidates will contribute to our MPA and Ph.D. programs and demonstrate evidence of research productivity.
