Director of Development Services Recruitment
The City of Taylor, Texas is seeking candidates for the Director of Development Services position who have strong experience in the operations of the development review process in a growing municipality and who are passionate about planning as a tool for maintaining and improving the quality of life in a community.  Experience with a medium size or larger community will be a plus. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Director of Development Services is responsible for the oversight of building inspection, code enforcement, current and long range planning, demographic monitoring and reporting, geographic information systems (GIS), assisting with housing and community redevelopment efforts, assisting with economic development projects, and the Moody Museum. The Director oversees an organization with 5.75 FTEs and a 2014-2015 Operating budget totaling $607,762.  Taylor has economic development agreements involving tax abatements and tax rebates as well as Chapter 380 agreements.  For additional information on the position and the community see www.chcpublicsectorsolutions.com 
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in a related field such as planning, political science, public administration or similar discipline; a Master’s degree and a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the municipal planning environment, or a minimum of (7) years’ experience in the municipal regulatory environment; and experience with working with volunteers of diverse backgrounds is strongly preferred along with a minimum of three (3) years of increasing administrative and supervisory responsibility.
OR a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban Planning, Construction Management or a related field, and a minimum of ten (10) years of increasing professional management experience in city planning construction management or equivalent combination of education and experience. AICP certification required. 
The starting salary is open and will depend upon background and qualifications of the successful candidate. The city benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance.  TMRS retirement is 5 years at age 60 or 20 years at any age and the City match is 1.5 to 1. The City provides LTD insurance to all full time employees, as well as sick leave, vacation and holidays.
