The City of Irvine has an exciting opportunity for a resource expert to serve as the City's Environmental Programs Administrator. This individual will possess specialized knowledge in environmental planning, energy, open space, waste and urban agriculture management. The City of Irvine has a rich history of environmental stewardship; taking steps to preserve open space as well as protecting the natural environment.

The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and direct the operations of the City’s energy, open space, waste and recycling and urban agriculture programs; to oversee the development and implementation of environmental programs, projects and associated community outreach; to ensure the achievement of the City’s environmental policies and compliance with regulatory requirements; to support planning processes related to parks, open space and the environment; to lead and perform expert level professional work; and to provide competent advice to City policy makers, leadership and the general public on environmental issues.
This position requires a Bachelors degree in Public Administration, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy or Management, Natural Resource Management, Biology, Sustainable Design and Building, or a related field and a minimum of five years of related professional experience, including knowledge and experience in environmental management, environmental compliance, energy management, waste minimization/waste reduction, energy efficiency and/or environmental sustainability principles; a minimum of three years administrative, budgetary or financial experience, and five years supervisory experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
