SUMMARY
This is a short-term (4-month) position working out of The Nature Conservancy's Connecticut chapter. The Urban Resilience Technician works directly with the Director of Science to assess and develop models and map products that will be used to increase the resilience and sustainability of municipalities in Connecticut. This work will help to identify and advance priorities for conservation actions in urban landscapes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Gathers and synthesizes data relating to green/natural infrastructures in urban landscapes.
- Builds GIS models to create priority urban conservation map products and plans.
- Strengthens working relationships with priority partners for the Conservancy’s Urban Resilience Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- May perform fieldwork.
- Compiles data, resolves disparities and modifies processes to generate plans.
- Knowledge of natural systems and natural systems management techniques.
- Familiarity with GIS, including ability to utilize data and model builder to create appropriate maps.
- Database management skills including report production.
- Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
- Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Web browsers).
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- May work with a small group of staff, interns or volunteers on a project basis.
- May purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in science related field and 1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with GIS software and data to create maps.

- Field experience.
- Ability to understand program budget development and monitoring.
- Ability to interpret guidelines and evaluate information and adapt accordingly.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
