GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Planner I position within the Department of Planning and Development assists with the coordination and facilitation of neighborhood planning initiatives and Parks and Recreation responsibilities. The position is responsible to ensure efforts related to both parks and recreation and community development are in complete alignment with the master plan. These duties include but are not limited to: community outreach and engagement, neighborhood planning initiatives, day to day oversight of parks maintenance and partnership opportunities, community and economic development activities, and providing support to Department efforts related to master plan implementation.
The ideal candidate will have a background and experiences in community planning and development and will demonstrate that they have an exceptional ability to develop positive relationships with a variety of community members, business representatives, and government organizations. This position will also conduct field research and collect data for current projects and assist in responding to public inquiries on planning and zoning issues. This position requires strong analytical, project management and communication skills, including the ability to provide critical feedback, facilitate and manage group processes, and communicate clearly among multiple stakeholder groups both in writing and orally.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Development or Planner II or Planner III.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: 1. Ability to travel to community meetings. 2. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings and conferences outside of normal working hours. 3. Have a valid driver’s license and ready access to a motor vehicle PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Classification History:
