The City of West Sacramento is accepting applications for the position of Senior Planner.  Application packages, including a resume and the required supplemental questionnaire, will be accepted through 5:00 p.m., September 17, 2014 or until will applications are received, whichever occurs first.  This recruitment may close without notice.
Under general direction, performs professional planning duties, researches and prepares planning studies; explains and interprets zoning ordinances and General Plan policies to the public; and participates in code enforcement.  This position is the specialist/lead person level in the planning series and may provide supervision to others in the planning series. This class differs from the Associate Planner in that it has lead responsibility for special projects of a sensitive and comprehensive nature, and/or has responsibility to direct a major complex planning project and may supervise and direct the work of others.
Education:  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in planning, environmental studies, geography, engineering, architecture, or a related field.  Experience:  Six (6) years of professional planning experience.  AICP “Certified Planner” certification may be substituted for the education requirement. A Master’s Degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Preference Statement:  Preference will be given to Senior Planner candidates who demonstrate that of their six (6) or more years of experience, at least five (5) years are in California local government in planning, community development, and/or redevelopment.  Preference will also be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge and experience applying the California Environmental Quality Act, Subdivision Map Act, and other relevant California planning statutes.
