MPA Director

The Department of Political Science & Public Administration seeks a Program Director at the associate professor rank to begin July 1, 2015. The Director will lead the Department’s NASPAA-accredited and nationally ranked Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration Program, and also contribute to the Ph.D. in Public Policy. Required qualifications:  a Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field at the time of appointment; primary research and teaching interests in one of the core areas of public administration including human resource management, organization theory, public management, nonprofit management, or public budgeting and financial management; demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research that will contribute to and enhance the department’s national reputation; and a commitment to teaching in a diverse environment.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university, located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas on an expanding modern campus. One of sixteen campuses in one of the oldest public university systems in the United States, UNC Charlotte offers over 27,000 culturally diverse students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences houses 20 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical sciences, and military sciences, as well as eight research centers and institutes and 13 interdisciplinary programs.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration has 22 faculty members, houses a NASPAA-accredited MPA Program, and is a core department in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy. The MPA Program operates in an urban environment where it has strong ties to local government and non-profit organizations, as well as the local chapters of the American Society for Public Administration and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. The program offers courses both on the main campus and at the university’s Center City Building in downtown Charlotte.
