Assistant Professor, The Department of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Louisville - Louisville, KY

The Department of Urban and Public Affairs at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2015. Research specialization is open. Teaching experience is a plus and candidates must have demonstrated potential to produce innovative urban scholarship. We are looking for a broadly trained urbanist, whose research engages the critical issues confronting cities and urban life in the 21st century. We strongly encourage candidates with comparative or global urban interests to apply, whether focused on the Global South, other areas of the world, or US cities in a global context. As an interdisciplinary department, we are open to candidates from a variety of disciplines including: geography, political science, sociology, planning, public administration, and public policy, as well as related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with completed PhD. ABD considered but must be completed by February 2016. In-rank Assistant Professors are encouraged to apply. Salary adjusted commensurate with credentials and experience.
The department currently offers two nationally ranked, accredited Master's degrees, in Urban Planning and Public Administration, as well as a PhD program in Urban and Public Affairs. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the PhD program, as well as contribute to one of the Master's degree programs depending on background. The normal departmental course load is 2-2. The University of Louisville is a state-supported metropolitan research institution with a strong urban mission and a number of nationally and internationally recognized scholars on faculty. Enrolling over 22,000 students, it is located at the heart of a diverse and dynamic metropolitan area of 1.3 million residents, well known for both its livability and affordability.
