About the Position

The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF) is looking for a self-motivated and experienced individual for the role of Development Associate. The associate will craft and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to ensure we have the resources to achieve our mission and vision.

This position may be located in Chicago or Springfield, IL. The position is full-time and may include evening and weekend work, and occasional travel within Illinois.

Responsibilities

·        Coordinate with Development Director to plan and execute IEC’s development plan

·        Provide integral support for IEC’s largest fundraiser, the Environmental Leadership Dinner, taking place each fall including event management, sponsorship solicitation, and supervision of silent auction and other fundraising activities during the event

·        Provide support and oversight of other fundraising events

·        Research, tracking, and preparing reports on prospective donors including individuals, foundations and corporations

·        Management of donor database and reporting functions

·        Coordination of board development activities such as fundraising committee meetings and annual commitment tracking

·        Creation and delivery of donor recognition, stewardship, and solicitation materials

·        Assistance with grant writing, grant materials, and organization

·        Ensure donations, donors, etc. are accurately recorded in CRM system

·        Participate in staff meetings and organizational activities as directed or when opportunities arise

·        Develop materials to aid the cultivation, solicitation, and recognition of major gifts, event sponsorships, and grants

Qualifications

·        Firm understanding of and interest in development including fundraising basics, solicitation, and stewardship

About Our Pay and Benefits

Sustainability Manager - Chicago Housing Authority

DESCRIPTION

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for planning, implementation, and reporting of the CHA’s Sustainability Plan, including energy management and renewable energy program, greenhouse gas inventory and reduction strategy, outreach and support for increased participation in waste diversion, and sustainability reporting.

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manage all reporting for baseline energy usage of CHA properties through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Portfolio Manager and other sustainability reporting software.

• Establish renewable energy and electrification goals to align the CHA with the City of Chicago’s Climate Action Plan and HUD’s Renew300 plan.

• Manage the CHA’s prequalified pool of renewable energy developers to identify renewable energy. opportunities, execute power purchase agreements or other agreements that increase participation in solar development programs that are financially advantageous to the CHA such as the State of Illinois Solar for All program.

• Oversee sustainable operations reporting, as well as data reporting compliance with the BIT Building program

• Manage the data collection and reporting and assist in the calculation and reduction strategy of CHA Green House Gas emissions.

• Perform analysis of building performance data, work with the Director to recommend and implement action steps to achieve continuous improvements through annual capital improvement planning.

• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to align sustainable program objectives, roadmaps, milestones, communicate progress and manage key metrics.

• Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the goals and objectives of the agency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Academic Level: Bachelors

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with a major related to the responsibilities of the position, and a minimum of three (3) years related experience in urban planning, sustainability, energy management or data management is preferred. Advanced degree preferred.

Knowledge of energy data management software (e.g., Energy Star Portfolio Manager) required, knowledge and past successful experience with LEED, Green Globes, BIT Building, or other green building certification programs preferred. Must be process-oriented with proven strength in data management, performance management, and reporting. Strong analytical skills required, experience with data visualization tools preferred. Ability to multi-task, handle short and long-term projects, and work independently. Requires excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to coordinate the completion of assignments and project deliverables in a fast-paced environment and make presentations for a variety of audiences.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) is required.

Will be required to travel to various sites throughout the City of Chicago.

This position is tied to the Chicago Recovery Plan Bonds.  The timeline of the work for this position is at least 3 years.

Under limited supervision, the Project Manager coordinates and supervises the work of the Community Recovery Plan division of the AIS Bureau of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management. The division is responsible for providing professional environmental engineering services to support City departments implementing the Community Recovery Plan through the vacant lot historical reviews, housing site preparation and remediation along with other community programs over the next three to five years.  Services address issues primarily related to environmental risk management with City property transactions and brownfields remediation. The Project Manager also serves as the project manager on major environmental projects of considerable scope and complexity and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Manages professional staff and directs the functions and operations of the AIS EHS Community Recovery Plan division to provide effective and efficient environmental engineering services to other departments

* Establishes and implements policies and procedures relating to the division’s objective of ensuring the protection of human health and the environment for Community Recovery Plan projects

* Consults with staff and other departments to determine scope of services, budgets, and specifications for projects

* Establishes timelines and implements processes to track and monitor the progress of projects and accomplishment of key objectives

* Manages the systems for obtaining, organizing and distributing large volumes of environmental records and data in electronic formats, including spreadsheets, databases, and geographic information system (GIS) maps specific to the vacant lot programs

* Manages the City Owned Land System/IPS interface project with AIS Bureau of IT and Department of Planning and Development to ensure data quality and timely information sharing for the vacant lot historical review project

* Manages and oversees Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater remediation projects, underground storage tank (UST) removal projects, and other redevelopment projects, including projects in the IEPA Site Remediation Program (SRP)

* Functions as a specialized advisor to executive level managers and as a technical specialist in the area of environmental engineering and serves as liaison with local, state, and federal agencies including CDPH, IEPA, and USEPA

* Coordinates and administers the environmental aspect of the citywide initiatives included in the Community Recovery Plan

* Monitors services provided by private contractors ensuring contract provisions meet specifications

* Resolves complex environmental engineering problems during design and construction of Community Recovery Plan projects

* Prepares and monitors the division budget; documents details required for bond project tracking

* Obtains and coordinates USEPA funding of various aspects of the vacant lot work including Technical Assistance and brownfield grants

* Directs training for staff and other City employees in new or updated environmental policies and procedures as well as professional development

* Effectively writes grant applications, environmental reports, and requests for proposals

* Maintains knowledge of current environmental regulations including but not limited to RCRA, CERCLA, NEPA, IEPA SRP, LUST, TSCA and the City municipal code

* Maintains knowledge of current environmental best practices related all appropriate inquiry and environmental remediation

* Communicates environmental issues and the department’s mission and goals both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees, consultants, and other City departments in a concise and precise manner

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (may be required to work outside of normal business hours)

Salary: $115,560-$119,040 per year


Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field, plus five years of supervision and/or project management work experience and a professional engineering license.

Selection Requirements

City Energy Policy Coordinator - Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund

Responsibilities:

  • Track and analyse climate-related ordinances at the Chicago city council
  • Draft, negotiate, and pass new climate ordinances
  • Build relationships with city council members and city staff
  • Develop expertise on technical energy and climate issues that impact the city of Chicago
  • Review policies from other cities that could be adopted in the city of Chicago
  • Develop relationships with environmental justice and community-based organizations
  • Coordinate meetings, take notes, and otherwise provide administrative support to any coalitions or other convenings related to city energy policy
  • Participate in City of Chicago climate stakeholder working groups and meeting

Federal Climate Campaign Director - Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund

Who: Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund

What: The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF) is looking to build the organizing and outreach capacity of environmental organizations within Illinois. Previous experience with coalitions, campaigns, outreach, and organizing is required.  Climate expertise is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow federal climate legislation closely and evaluate its potential impact on Illinois with an emphasis on impacts to frontline, low income, and BIPOC communities.
  • Partner with IEC member organizations and stakeholders to create and implement a campaign to ensure Illinois’ Congressional delegation supports and champions federal climate legislation.
  • Provide support to junior level staff at IEC and affiliated organizations.
  • Contribute to IEC’s public messaging and serve as the main spokesperson with respect to our federal climate work.
  • Coordinate with partner organizations to develop strategies and implement tactics, such as congressional meetings, letters to the editor, action alerts, and other grassroots organizing opportunities.
  • Seek out additional funding for climate and organizing work for partner organizations.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years experience.  This is a senior position at IEC/IECEF
  • Previous campaign experience, including political or organizing campaigns
  • Expertise working with federal elected officials
  • Knowledge of climate issues and policy, preferred
  • Excellent public speaking and media skills
  • Experience working in and with frontline and/or environmental justice organizations
  • A minimum of three years experience in staff management

Development Associate - Forest Preserve Foundation

Who: The Foundation’s mission is to engage in protecting and restoring the treasured natural habitats within the Forest Preserves of Cook County and to enhance the outdoor experiences of all communities. We do this by encouraging and administering private gifts to further the Forest Preserve’s mission and goals.
