Wayne State University’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2023. We offer the following degree programs: Master of Urban Planning (MUP) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Urban Studies. Additionally, we offer graduate certificates in Economic Development, Urban Sustainability, and Geographic Information Systems, and undergraduate minors in Urban Studies and Urban Sustainability. The successful candidate will teach in these graduate and undergraduate programs. We are interested in candidates who can use racial inequities as the framework for studying urban and planning issues, and who can incorporate the perspectives and experiences of underrepresented and social groups that are underserved by academic research, teaching, and service. Candidates with experience in teaching and a record of scholarship (or promise thereof) in transportation equity or climate justice will fill identified gaps in our curriculum and research, but we are open to other specialties that fit within our programs. The successful candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Planning or related field by August 2023.

DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Community and Council Engagement serves as the Planning and Development Department's liaison to the Department of Neighborhoods and City Council.  A key function of the role is to guide major development projects through the community feedback and City Council processes, while interacting extensively with internal and external stakeholders.   The Director of Community and Council Engagement will work closely with the other directors and project managers within the Planning and Development Department.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Coordinate with the Department of Neighborhoods in management of key community activities related to major development projects.  Work closely with staff across departments to ensure major development projects comply with all relevant city ordinances.
  • Prepare messaging and communication related to major development projects in the City's process; manage logistics for key community meetings; collect and distribute key feedback from the community on planning projects and identify and escalate issues as needed.
  • Articulate and elevate a vision for Detroit neighborhoods that embodies the highest quality of design excellence, sustainable and ecological performance and social equity for all Detroit residents.
  • Ensure City Council members and staff are informed of key Planning and Development issues.  Ensure key PDD issues are on City Council agendas and presented in individual briefings, as may be desired.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests and inquiries from City Council members and their staffs in partnership with planning staff as needed.
  • Assists with the implementation of divisional goals, initiatives and plans.
  • Manages project development and execution from inception to closure.
  • Produces summarization reports, outputs
  • Tracks and reports project milestones and status reports to project sponsors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in business administration, public administration, public policy, urban studies, or a closely related field.

Experience
  • Four (4) years of professional experience with urban planning, physical neighborhood planning, urban design.
  • Legal experience/background, desirable.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills including the ability to develop presentations, create strong professional relationships and manage diplomatically the interests of multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, a sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Urban Studies Assistant Professor at Trinity College, Hartford CT

Tenure-track Position in Urban Studies at Trinity College

The Urban Studies Program (URST) at Trinity College announces a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level focused on Sustainable Urban Development, with a comparative global perspective. We particularly encourage applications from candidates with some range of the following preferred qualifications and expertise: sustainable urban development and environmental policy, international comparative urban environmental policy, urban environmental health and policy, sustainable urban design, sustainable urban transportation and infrastructure, global climate change’s impacts in urban development, urban sustainability and environmental justice, or intersections between social and environmental movements and urban sustainability dynamics. Interests in urban Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial statistics and data visualization applications to sustainable urban development will be considered, but are not required. The geographical regions of specialization are open, although primary research in regions other than North America is preferred; an international and comparative perspective on sustainable urban development and environmental policy is imperative.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in her/his specialty, including a basic course on sustainable urban development and a core course entitled, “From Hartford to World Cities.” URST is an interdisciplinary program, and thus we welcome applicants from a number of disciplines. Candidates should hold a PhD or have a completed PhD by the time of appointment in a relevant field such as urban planning, urban studies, environmental studies, public policy, geography, sociology, or anthropology. The teaching load is 2/2 for the first two years (and 3/2 thereafter) with a one-semester leave every fourth year.  The successful candidate will be housed in the Urban Studies Program.

Job Description

The Division of Preservation Finance seeks a Director for Lead Prevention
and Healthy Homes Initiatives to manage the Primary Prevention Program
(PPP), a federally funded program that makes loans to single and
multi-family homeowners for lead treatment, and to establish Healthy Homes
programs and practices in the Division of Preservation Finance. The
Division of Preservation Finance administers multiple loan programs
including the Multifamily Housing Rehabilitation Program, the
Participation Loan Program, the Green Housing Preservation Program, the
HUD Multifamily Loan Program and the LIHTC Preservation (Year 15) Program.
These programs facilitate the rehabilitation of privately-owned
multifamily buildings throughout New York City.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of
full-time satisfactory professional experience in the development, design,
construction, appraisal, financing, negotiation or disposition of real
estate or in real estate law, or in urban planning, design or renewal, or
analytical or coordination work related to housing programs; at least 18
months must have been in an executive, administrative or managerial
capacity or supervising professional personnel performing work in the
fields noted above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent
to "1" above. Graduate study in the field of urban studies, city planning,
business or public administration, finance, architecture, engineering or
other related fields may be substituted for up to one year of the required
experience on the

basis of 30 credits equaling one year of experience. Graduation from an
accredited law school may be substituted for one year of the required
experience. However, all candidates must have three years of work
experience including at least 18 months of executive, administrative,
managerial or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Candidates must have strong management skills, be detailed-oriented,
organized, self-motivated, and be able to manage multiple projects and
meet deadlines. Candidates must also demonstrate strong verbal and written
communication skills. Demonstrated analytical skills, and ability to use
data to manage and work effectively with others to obtain results promptly
