Community Organizer - Austin Coming Together

Position Description

The Community Organizer will have four main responsibilities: a) ensure widespread community engagement in, and support for, the Austin Forward. Director of Innovation, Strategic Alignment and Engagement - Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning

  • Focus on innovation and development of strategies to mine, develop, and further innovation internally and externally by leading diverse working groups to brainstorm complex challenges and develop strategies to innovate, improve processes, and enhance service to the public.
  • Foster connections to new audiences and deepen external partnerships to drive innovation within the agency and more broadly in the industry and region.

Support department

  • Actively manage and coach assigned staff. Recruit and select department personnel. Assign, direct, train, and oversee the work of staff. Reward, discipline, coach, counsel, and evaluate staff performance. Develop staff schedules. Recommend transfers, promotions, suspensions, terminations, and demotions.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, and court decisions affecting public sector entities. Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment. Skill in tactfully navigating multiple levels of the political landscape. Skill in public and media relations. Ability to present complex ideas effectively in writing and verbally. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public policy and regional planning. Thorough knowledge of current literature and recent developments in the field of public policy. Ability to analyze programs and develop recommendations for improvement.

Education and experience

Bachelor's degree with coursework in political science, public policy, or related field. Considerable experience in working with federal, state, and local legislative processes, public sector governing structures and processes, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Senior Project Manager in Strategic Planning - Chicago Transit Authority

Who: Chicago Transit Authority

What: This Senior Project Manager, Planning position will be the lead on the Red Line Extension project. Ideally, we would like someone that can engage in the worlds of planning, engineering and policy and can manage multiple aspects of a major capital project in the planning/preliminary engineering stage, overseeing a large program management (staff extension) contract. This person would have primary responsibility for project execution, including meeting federal (FTA) grant requirements, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements and generally keeping the project on track. Someone who understands and can be mindful of the dynamics of Chicago geography, including historic investment patterns and impacts of segregation, would be particularly well-suited.

Under direction, supports the development of comprehensive transportation plans that serve as a guide for future transportation projects and development of long-term goals and strategic objectives for CTA. Who: The U.S. Census Bureau’s Chicago Regional Census Center is hiring a Clerk, Census Recruiter, Media Specialist, and a Regional Technician

What:
Clerk: The individual selected for this position will:
  • Perform administrative activities such as following up on requests for information, ensure the correct material is provided, and distribution of office materials and incoming mail. Maintain correspondence files. 
  • Monitor personnel/payroll processing activities, resolve and recommend corrective actions using an automated system. 
  • Communicate with internal and external customers, answer inquiries regarding office procedures, respond to multiple customer demands.  
  • Create memoranda and correspondence, review for accuracy and procedural compliance on personnel and payroll documentation based on rough drafts or verbal instructions.

  • Oversee the expansion of the GoCPS enrollment platform and long-term enrollment strategy.

By collaborating directly with communities to create accessible and visual explanations on issues important to them, CUP provides individuals with the tools to claim their rights, advocate for their needs, and fight for social justice.

What: Program Manager CUP is seeking a full-time Program Manager to work on our Community Education programs. Community Education programs are collaborations of CUP staff; visual thinkers, like artists and graphic designers; and people working in communities, like organizers, service providers, and other advocates.

The Program Manager will oversee our Public Access Design program and collaborate on other Community Education programs, including Making Policy Public and Envisioning Development Toolkits. Public Access Design is an effort to support quick-turnaround collaborations of CUP, designers, and advocates to produce timely tools for community organizing, while supporting the development of designers who want to engage in community-driven work. The Program Manager will report to CUP’s Director of Programs.

  • Demographics & Planning: Supports organizational decision-making with synthesized analyses involving neighborhood-by-neighborhood demographic trends, school enrollment projections, school facility utilization statistics and school configuration options. Director, Public Affairs - Food Issues Management & Key Stakeholder Engagement Programs - Golin (Chicago)

Who: Golin, an integrated PR, digital and content agency.

What: We are currently looking for an experienced Public Affairs professional to develop and execute engagement plans on issues impacting clients in the food retail and CPG sector. This includes providing counsel, strategic planning and execution for clients in the areas of message development, influencer engagement, policy communications and thought leadership. This person will work closely with integrated agency teams, client market leadership, Government Relations, Communications, Supply Chain and Sustainability, and other functional teams and leaders as needed to ensure that policy and reputational objectives align and support client business goals.

The position will serve as a senior Public Affairs leader in Golin’s Corporate Practice and lead the development of plans, thought leadership and provide client counsel for external and internal engagement with a broad range of key stakeholders to proactively and reactively address issues impacting the corporate reputation of our clients. In this role, the director will engage with C-suite and functional leaders from within our client companies and is responsible for maintaining strong working relationships between Golin, our Public Affairs clients and relevant non-governmental organizations, professional associations, academic institutions, think tanks and advocacy organizations in order to inform and influence U.S public policy and perception.

Economic Development Planner - Great Cities Institute, UIC CUPPA (Chicago, IL)

Who: The Great Cities Institute (GCI) of College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Great Cities Institute produces research on topics such as urban fiscal policies, economic development, infrastructure and capital financing, and other urban planning and policies issues.
