POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal Planner performs a full array of duties which includes managing, coordinating and directing the City’s major planning efforts, including leading the design review functions, supervising and participating in advanced, highly-complex planning activities for the Planning Division, current planning, and long range planning. Position Description:
Under direction, the Planner III: Urban Designer/Architect performs complex planning work relating to the design of the built environment.  This position is responsible for providing professional architectural and urban design review of development proposals; developing architectural and urban design guidelines for a variety of land uses and building types; developing and implementing strategies to educate the design profession of the standards expected of work in San Francisco; participating in design review advisory groups, advising Department Staff on technical knowledge of the Building Code, Green Building Ordinance, building material and construction methodology and cost; providing architectural design expertise to assist in the development of proposed long-range policy and planning initiatives regarding the built environment; and performing other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited four year college or university AND four (4) years (8,000 hours) of verifiable full-time-equivalent experience in an urban, city, and/or regional and/or other related planning environment (such as transportation planning, environmental planning, architecture or urban design);  OR
  2. THE POSITION
The City of Arcadia is seeking a professional, skilled, team-oriented Senior Planner in the Development Services Department to perform difficult and advanced level professional planning. We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager for the US Transportation & Infrastructure Sector to service the Central US Region. We are looking for someone with experience working with major Contractors in a Design/Build environment dealing with major highway/bridge construction. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong track record of winning and delivering design/build work within budget, quality and schedule for multiple projects. This will include leading design teams delivering commercially based design solutions and coordinating the various deliverables; effectively scoping and packaging the work plus managing and controlling the design process from preliminary solutions through the production of “as built” documentation across the lifecycle of the design process. Candidates must hold the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban or regional planning, urban design, urban geography, architecture or a related field considered useful in city planning.
Candidates should have at least two (2) years of full or part-time equivalent experience in professional planning or urban design for an assistant level position and four (4) years for an associate level position. A Master's degree in urban or regional planning can substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Civic San Diego is the public non-profit corporation wholly owned by the City of San Diego with the mission of managing public improvement and public-private partnerships. In addition, Civic San Diego has been granted land-use authority to perform planning and permitting functions, administer the downtown parking district, design and manage the construction of parks and fire stations, and develop and execute economic development strategies.
