The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) seeks a motivated planner/research analyst with interest and experience in the fields of smart growth, transportation/transit planning, and community revitalization. This is a planning and policy research position assisting and performing analytical work, conducting studies, and facilitating outreach and dialogue to member governments and planning partners.

The Office of Smart Growth conducts planning activities and technical studies throughout the nine-county Philadelphia metropolitan region.

The purpose of this work is to better coordinate transportation planning and investments with land use planning, to foster efficient land use patterns and zoning that supports a diversity of housing choices, walkable neighborhoods, and livable and equitable communities. Studies and initiatives can focus on broad policy issues for the entire region, or specific place-based work, on topics such as community revitalization, transit-oriented development, master planning and visioning, zoning, shared services, place-based marketing, and travel and tourism infrastructure.

Beyond studies and plans, the Office of Smart Growth also develops tools and technical assistance to member governments, such as our municipal implementation tool brochure series and our interactive web map, the Smart Growth Project Database, among others. The Office also leads ongoing programs including the Transportation and Community Development Initiative grant program, the Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia marketing program, and the Strategies for Older Suburbs (SOS) Roundtable Series. The Coordinating Planner will be responsible for  implementing the Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus Ordinance and managing and conducting City-wide complex planning projects such as Mayor Emanuel's Industrial Corridor Modernization Initiative. In addition, the planner will  assist with Chicago Neighborhoods Now annual reports and managing and conducting regional and neighborhood planning studies. The Coordinating Planner will develop and conduct land use planning and economic feasibility studies and apprise senior management of land use policies and plans through detailed maps, reports and presentation materials. This practice conducts transportation planning and community involvement, often within a wider set of goals such as economic development, health, and reduced dependence on the private automobile. Responsibilities
In this position, the successful candidate will be expected to manage tasks and entire projects, often with the involvement and guidance of a Principal. Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a broad range of transportation and urban planning experience, preferably with a focus on transit operations and planning. A candidate should be able to demonstrate significant expertise in at least five (5) of the following areas:
  • Citywide transportation planning and analysis
  • Campus transportation planning
  • Parking management
  • Bicycle/pedestrian facility planning
  • Street design guidelines
  • Data collection and performance assessments
  • Multimodal/intermodal facility planning
  • Transit station area planning
  • Transit service planning
  • Transportation demand management
  • Transport policy, funding, and governance
  • Paratransit and demand-responsive services
  • Advanced graphics communications (InDesign, Illustrator, SketchUp, Photoshop)

At a minimum, the candidate should meet the following qualifications:
  • At least eight (8) years of responsible experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or a related field
  • A bachelor’s or more advanced degree in urban or transportation planning, or a related planning field; master’s degree is preferred
  • Successful and sustained experience in business development, i.e., winning work; public agency experience, grant writing and successful RFP development are applicable skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and other communication skills, including facilitating public workshops
  • The ability to manage complex projects on time and on budget
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Description Global Green USA seeks a committed and energetic person to join our Santa Monica office.

This position reports to the Green Urbanism Program Director and works with local governments, affordable housing developers, architects, planners, and other non-profit organizations to develop and implement green building, renewable energy, and sustainable planning projects and programs at a variety of scales. Responsibilities
Provide technical and administrative support for Green Urbanism Program project areas such as LEED certification, tactical urbanism installations, green building consulting, and environmental planning and design.
