OVERVIEW
Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative is seeking an amazing entry-level urban designer/planner to join our main office outside Nashville, Tennessee. If selected to fill this important position, your primary responsibilities will be assisting in the completion of project tasks and deliverables, by working on planning studies, producing planning related graphics and documents, gathering background information and data, and providing administrative support related to project tasks and TPUDC office management. THE JOB
As a member of the TPUDC team, you will contribute your own skills and knowledge to a variety of projects, including:
  • Site planning and urban design;
  • Comprehensive planning;
  • Municipal master plans and strategic plans;
  • Creation of Form-Based Codes;
  • Graphic design and document production;
  • Marketing and outreach;
  • Research and development;
  • Administrative support.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and Urban Design;
  • Production of project graphics and documents using a variety of techniques and media;

Position Description
  • The Kitchen Community is seeking a Project Coordinator to assist with site reviews, site design, construction activities, and maintenance tasks. Reporting to the Regional Project Manager, a primary responsibility is to serve as a liaison with the schools and their garden teams to ensure successful Learning Garden pre-build and Planting Day activities. The Project Coordinator visits sites and works with the schools and garden teams to develop and review effective garden team goals.
  • Primary Responsibilities
  •   Coordinate with TKC Operations Manager and Regional Project Manager in grading, targeting, and selecting recipient schools for Learning Garden grant applications.
  •   Work with Regional Project Manager to assist with Learning Garden site analysis and site selection.
  •   Proactively manage communications with schools regarding Learning Garden pre-build and build information.
  •   Assist with scheduling meetings, updating contact information, and tracking school information.
  •   Promptly respond to emails and inquiries.
  •   Communicate with district facilities personnel, school principal, and school facilities manager regarding garden site, scope, requirements, project timelines, and deliverables as needed.

Required Qualifications

  •   Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  •   Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking skills, and capacity to work with team, contractors, and clients.
  •   Ability to work independently, multi-task and coordinate several major activities at once, in a flexible manner.

The City of Houston Planning & Development Department is looking to fill multiple entry-level Planner positions within the Development Services Division of our department.

The Planner position conducts regulatory review of development proposals and subdivision plat applications; researches development activity, considers policy trends, and prepares recommendations; interacts directly with the public, developers, engineers, architects and other professionals; and makes presentations to the Planning Commission, city officials, other boards and agencies.

The Urban Designer will perform the following job duties:
  1. Research and analyze urban context including transportation systems, zoning, land use, population density, history, geography, character, environment, and natural resources. 
  2. Work on programming research, zoning research, massing studies, orientation studies, and other design studies. 
  3. Develop concept diagrams and 3d renderings to convey ideas. 
  4. Document urban design strategies and approaches. 
  5. Prepare presentation drawings and diagrams representing design intent and urban design vision for housing, office, retail, and mixed-use developments. 
  6. Prepare schematic drawings for architecture, urban design, and landscape features of large-scale development projects. 
  7. Utilize knowledge of building practices, design standards, and landscape practices, to complete designs and drawings. 
  8. Utilize knowledge of land use, zoning, and master planning principles 
  9. Ideal candidates will be able to apply knowledge of New York City and/or Washington, DC zoning regulations. 
  10. Drawing and diagrams using AutoCAD, 3D modeling, and Adobe graphics suite programs. Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) software is preferred. 
  11. Interact with consultants throughout design process.
Position Requirements: - Professional Degree Required; advanced degree preferred with ideal candidate possessing joint-degrees in architecture and planning or urban design
  • 5-8 years experience in urban design, architecture or landscape architecture 
  • Experience in master planning of mixed use developments, urban re/development and revitalization, new town planning, and Transit Oriented Development preferred 
  • Able to prioritize and multi-task. 
  • Must be proactive, detail-oriented and a self-starter, 
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Candidate should be proficient with AutoCAD, REVIT/BIM, Adobe Graphics Suite, and other related design software.

Michael Watkins Architect, LLC is a small and very busy architecture and town planning firm in Kentlands, outside Washington, D.C.  We are seeking an architect / urban designer to join us in serving some of the best clients out there.  We support our clients in building community at a variety of scales (from two to two thousand acres) in the US and abroad.  The services we provide include:  conceptual architectural design; master plans for infill, greenfield, greyfield and brownfield sites; zoning codes, design codes and pattern books; serving as "Town Architect" and more.  Design charrettes, both public and semi-public, are the norm especially on large projects.
