ESSENTIAL DUTIES

·         Serves as the project manager and the point of contact for assigned projects from inception through internal approvals, legislative approval, closing of city-owned land sales if applicable, completion of construction, and any subsequent amendments

·         Serves as a project manager to ensure compliance with planning priorities, policies, and regulations, as required.

·         Evaluates and provides comments focused on site plan layouts, architectural design concepts, building siting and massing, and solutions to meet urban planning design principles for departmental proposals submitted by private consultants and public agencies for conformity with city development goals and objectives, governmental regulations, and funding eligibility

·         Coordinates with City departments, elected officials, community residents, governmental agencies, and private consultants on major planning studies and policy initiatives

·         Gather and analyze land use related data and create user-friendly graphics, including maps and presentation documents to support planning recommendations and strategies for internal and external review

·         Represents the department at community meetings, civic and business organizations, and conferences, to discuss planning activities and projects

·         Prepares graphic materials, maps, presentation materials, and planning study reports as required for public engagement efforts

Associate Planner - Gurnee, IL

The Village of Gurnee is seeking qualified applicants for the entry level position of Associate Planner within the Community Development Department. With new and exciting projects coming to Gurnee, this position will have the opportunity to work closely with businesses, developers and Planning Officials to achieve organizational and strategic goals while gaining experience in the industry! 

This position is responsible for professional planning work related to land use and municipal development.  The selected candidate will complete a variety of routine and complex assignments pertaining to the implementation of current and long range planning programs.  Under supervision, the candidate will also coordinate and implement the subdivision, planned unit development, and related current and long-range zoning processes.

Senior Planner - Gurnee, IL

The Village of Gurnee seeks an experienced Planner ready to take their career to the next level as the Village’s Senior Planner.  

The selected candidate will be responsible for professional planning and project management work related to land use and municipal development. The candidate will have a variety of routine and complex assignments pertaining to the implementation of current and long range planning programs. City Planner, Tupelo, MS

Summary

The City Planner is responsible for overseeing the planning activities in the City of Tupelo. These activities

include administration of the City’s long-range plan and subsequent planning and zoning functions. The

City Planner will work with the City administration to set department priorities, oversee updating the City’s

comprehensive plan, implementing and managing long-range projects, implementing the comprehensive


plan, aiding with economic development, developing and implementing strategies of overlay districts, ad-

minister zoning policy, assist with design review, and oversee code enforcement. The City Planner will have


unique opportunities to work on projects in neighborhood redevelopment, recreational asset development,

bike & pedestrian infrastructure, and downtown/urban redevelopment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage good customer relations in the administration of planning and zoning matters. Contact

with the public is extensive and involves communication of complex information often requiring

tact and diplomacy.

• Develop long-term work program for the department. Assists the Director in the preparation of the

annual department budget to be presented to the Mayor and City Council.

• Manages budgetary items satisfactorily.

• Supervision of planning staff.

• Supervision of day-to-day zoning, subdivision, and all other land use permit activities. Reviews (or

delegates to staff) all departmental reports and presentations.

• Directs the efforts of periodic comprehensive plan updates, ordinance and resolution preparation,

preparation of program and project plans.

• Responsible for short and long-range decisions in comprehensive and current land use planning

and code administration.

• Informs the Mayor and Council of upcoming events and impacts affecting City land use practices

and policies.

• Serves as the principal technical planning representative for the City Planning Committee, City

Council, the Tupelo Redevelopment Authority, the Major Thoroughfare Committee, and the Design

Review Committee.

• Evaluates planning-related legislation and applicability to the city and departmental functions.

• Possesses a familiarity with applicable city planning laws, statutes, and ordinances.

• Coordinate and oversee departmental consultants.

• Incorporates updates into the Development Code.

• Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems is desirable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees work of Zoning Administrator in managing review of zoning actions and permit applications.
