Bookkeeper (Full-time), Lawndale Christian Development Corporation

Lawndale Christian Development Corporation (LCDC) works within the community to eliminate health

and wealth disparities in North Lawndale. We develop and manage affordable mixed-use housing, create

homeownership for working families, and build cooperative businesses.

LCDC’s vision is to develop and manage community-enhancing residential and commercial properties,

partner for educational excellence, and catalyze for community revitalization in the North Lawndale

community. Since our inception, LCDC has completed $125 million in residential and commercial

development which accounts for over 500 units all in the North Lawndale community. We currently manage

170 units of affordable housing.

LCDC seeks a detail-oriented and community-minded Full-Time Bookkeeper to support the financial needs

of our local small business and cooperative business clients. This role will play a critical part in helping

entrepreneurs build sustainable operations through sound financial management.

This is an ideal opportunity for a professional who is passionate about economic empowerment, financial

literacy, and strengthening black- and brown-owned businesses.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Bookkeeper will primarily be responsible for providing on-demand

services to LCDC’s Coop incubator clients, other cooperatives within the Chicago area, and small

businesses in the Lawndale community. Services will be offered as one-on-one office hours, group coaching

sessions, and as part of business technical assistance program course curricula.

In addition, the Bookkeeper will be responsible for LCDC’s internal accounting for various real estate

development initiatives.



Economic Development Coordinator (EDC), Lawndale Christian Development Corporation

Title: Economic Development Coordinator (EDC)

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Economic Development Coordinator will direct both program

management and business operations.

Program Management

The CEDC will serve as Program Manager for three main initiatives, supporting each with recruitment,

coordinating the programs, and managing the facilitators.

• COOP Incubator - The LCDC Co-op organizes residents to collectively form worker

cooperatives with the aim of generating multiple small businesses owned and run by the

community cooperative. Using a multiple stakeholder worker cooperative model, LCDC

provides governance support and back-office services including accounting/bookkeeping, IT

support, human resources management, tax assistance, marketing, compliance, and

governance training.

• Business Services - Because our mission is greater economic success for low-income

communities, we provide these services to a limited number of traditional small businesses

located in communities we operate, and co-ops not affiliated with LCDC located within

Chicago. LCDC provides intensive business implementation courses which educate

emerging and established business owners.

• Internship Program – This program is designed to provide experience in community economic

development, collaborating with LCDC’s Cooperative Incubator and worker cooperatives.

The intern will provide support to staff and gain experience in canvassing, data maintenance,

new business outreach and attraction, and event management.


Business Operations

As a business operations specialist, the EDC will support, advise, and manage small business clients

in LCDC’s COOP incubator and business support programs. This includes one-on-one and group

business consulting, community outreach, communications, and event planning. On behalf of LCDC

and our clients, the EDC works with community partners to advance LCDC’s organizing, cooperative

development, and community relations goals.

In addition, the EDC will support LCDC’s capital management efforts as we deploy seed and capital

funding to clients.

Willamette Partnership is hiring a new partner who will project manage collaboratives, support state and local planning and policy research, and provide direct technical assistance (TA) to communities, local governments, and tribes facing water infrastructure-related challenges. 

Across a number of projects and with varying degrees of engagement (some short-term, some likely multi-year), this work will likely include planning, programs or policy change for gray and natural infrastructure needed for drinking water, and navigating state and federal funding sources related to wastewater and stormwater. This position will work directly with local partners throughout the Pacific Northwest to craft innovative water infrastructure solutions that improve environmental, health, and community development outcomes. 

This new partner will help grow our technical assistance work, with a focus finding sustainable, community-centered water solutions for small, low-income, and rural communities, tribal governments, and others that have experienced inequity under past investments. 

 

Preservation Compact Senior Program Officer, Community Investment Corporation - Hybrid (Chicago, IL)

The Position: The Preservation Compact Senior Program Officer provides strategic support for the Preservation Compact, a collaborative initiative housed at CIC to address the loss of affordable rental housing in Cook County. Collaborative partners encompass a diverse array of housing stakeholders, including all levels of government, for-profit and non-profit developers, community and grassroots groups, lenders and civic organizations. The Senior Program Officer leads policy analysis and stakeholder engagement efforts, driving consensus-building among partners to advance the Compact's affordable housing preservation goals. This role involves developing and implementing strategic initiatives, conducting research and analysis to inform policy recommendations, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across sectors.
Reports to: Director of The Preservation Compact
Duties and Responsibilities:

Support Preservation Compact Director in the development and implementation of the Preservation Compact's policy agenda and strategic plan

Conduct research and analysis to further the Preservation Compact's policy, legislative, and other priorities

Convene, facilitate, and coordinate logistics of select regular and ad hoc working groups

Represent the Preservation Compact at meetings and events as needed, cultivate relationships with partners and other stakeholders

Track, research, and update information on properties targeted for preservation

Identify and develop resources including maps, data tools, and outreach materials to support Preservation Compact activities

Assist in developing biannual report, other publications, and grant reports as needed

Support cross-programmatic efforts within Community Investment Corporation

Maintain excellent relations and communications with coworkers, CIC staff, and external partners, and other stakeholders

Field ad hoc requests for information or assistance from the Preservation Compact

Provide communications, content and updates regarding assigned program areas to be included in the Preservation Compact's newsletter, press releases, action alerts, legislative updates, meeting minutes, and program areas of the website

Collaborate with team members on outreach, communications, events, and other activities as needed
Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in community development, affordable housing, public policy, or related fields preferred

Excellent MS Office skills, experience with data analysis and GIS/mapping software, and Notion project management platform preferred

Knowledge of local/regional housing and community development institutions strongly preferred

Experience with website content maintenance and email newsletter programs preferred

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability prioritize multiple deadline driven projects

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Position Summary   

Advance Illinois seeks an outstanding Senior Policy Associate to work on issues related to state education policy. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, research, writing and communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to go above and beyond to support multiple projects.   

  

The Senior Policy Associate will report to the Director of Policy and will support the policy needs of the organization. We are looking for a self-starter who is comfortable working in a small team environment and partnering not only with staff members, but with diverse outside partners.

Essential Functions  

Supports the development of innovative solutions, ideas, and best practices to improve Illinois PK12 funding and PK12 workforce training and support system 

Writes issue briefs, articles and memoranda on policy issues and best practices for Advance Illinois staff. Oversees and executes research including literature reviews and landscape scans 

Manages the collection, analysis and dissemination of information and data necessary to keep the team abreast of key issues and trends in the education system, inform development of policy solutions, and develop external reports. This includes analyzing financial and budget data 

Facilitates meaningful conversations around funding levers, practices, policies and system structures to promote equity within the education system, including through PK12 funding and PK12 workforce training and support systems 

Provides information and technical assistance to staff and other external policymakers. Provides policy analysis to committees, task forces, work groups that Advance Illinois participates in 

Organizes, participates in, and conducts workshops, conferences, and seminars. Creates presentations and develop talking points, support state strategy sessions, and other meetings   

Quickly analyzes draft legislation and recommends appropriate next steps and level of organizational engagement. Develops talking points and materials related to proposed legislation  

Helps design and contributes to project strategy to deliver relevant and timely expertise to Advance Illinois staff 

  

Education and Experience  

Bachelor’s degree plus relevant quantitative analytic, and writing skills required 

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role 

  

Working Location  

The position is located in Advance Illinois offices in either Chicago or Springfield. Advance Illinois is a hybrid workplace. Employees are expected to work from the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a floating day of their choice as well as be present at in-person meetings with partners as needed. The organization abides by CDC and other health and safety guidelines, and staff are expected to be vaccinated.  

 

Preferred Start Date  
The position offers flexibility for the start date, which can be set anytime between March 1 and June 30, 2025.  

 

Compensation  

The salary range is $58,000 to $65,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, employees have the opportunity to earn a bonus of 10% of annual salary for a total annual compensation of $63,800 to $71,500.  Candidates with advanced qualifications may be eligible for a more senior policy position. Excellent benefits package includes: health/dental/vision insurance; short-term/long-term disability plans; Simple IRA with a company match plan; flexible spending account; holidays and vacation accrual; and ability to pay into a Health Savings Account.
