What: We are seeking a talented Planner to help prepare projects in our small, but growing Detroit office. In particular, we are looking for someone with skills in mapping and graphics plus research and writing. This position involves drafting and editing reports and documents, preparation of plan maps, development of graphics and document layout, and preparation of presentation materials. Data collection is also part of the work including traffic counts, parking inventories, land use surveys, and occasionally intercept surveys of people on the street. Some surveys, meetings, and workshops occur on evenings and weekends.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, PLANNING (Assistant Director RER 1)
SALARY: ENTRY $108,709 – MAX $174,518
The Assistant Director for Planning (Assistant Director RER 1) is responsible for the administration and management of the Planning Division of RER. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the Director to manage and direct the overall growth management functions for the County, including the review, analysis and preparation of recommendations for applications to amend the Comprehensive Development Master Plan, and preparation of special planning reports. In addition the Assistant Director manages the preparation and administration of the County’s State mandated Comprehensive Development Master Plan, and preparation of the required review and update of the comprehensive plan every 7 years. The incumbent will assist the Director to manage and direct the historic preservation functions and activities; assist the Director to manage, direct and implement sustainable planning activities and development practices, and address climate change and sea level rise through adaptation and mitigation strategies; oversees the division’s planning research function for developing demographic, geographic and economic data; and formulates and presents ordinances and resolutions for consideration of the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Advisory Board, Community Councils, Historic Preservation Board, and Agricultural Practices Advisory Board.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field. A minimum of three to six years of professional planning experience to include supervisory experience; or Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field and a minimum of five to nine years of professional planning experience to include supervisory experience is required. Must possess American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Assistant Professor, URBAN AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS
The Department of Urban and Public Affairs (UPA) at the University of Louisville invites applications for a tenure track appointment with a focus on Urban and Regional Planning. The position will begin August 1, 2016. UPA offers three graduate degrees: Master of Urban Planning, Master of Public Administration, and a PhD in Urban and Public Affairs. This position will contribute primarily to the planning degree program, but faculty members participate in teaching, research and mentoring across all three degrees.
Qualifications for the position include: a Ph.D. in Urban Planning or related discipline, an emerging record of excellence in planning research; ability to teach in studio settings; AICP status (or the ability to obtain); experience in areas of planning and policy research in a collaborative academic setting; excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; an aptitude for working collaboratively with state and local governments; practitioner experience in planning settings; and an ability to work with community organizations and planning constituencies. Teaching expectations would include such core courses as Planning Theory and History and Land Use Planning. An ability to contribute to an existing Masters in Sustainability and a proposed undergraduate degree in Sustainability will be advantageous.
