NE Regional Organizer of Offshore Wind, BlueGreen Alliance - Remote (NE U.S.)

The BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) is a powerful and unified voice for building an economy that addresses climate change, protects the health of people and the environment, eliminates income and racial disparities, and creates and maintains good-paying, union jobs in communities across the country. BGA brings together labor unions and environmental organizations—representing millions of members and supporters—around a shared agenda and enacts change by advocating at the state and federal level; providing education and engaging union members and environmentalists; and communicating the benefits of this shared agenda for working people, their families, and their communities. RESPONSIBILITIES

The NRO will track and review all actions related to offshore wind energy development in the Northeast United States. The NRO will engage and mobilize labor and environmental organizations and coalitions across the region to support BGA’s initiatives on a high-road offshore wind industry, transmission, and clean energy manufacturing.

The NRO will work closely with BGA’s Director of Offshore Wind and state, policy, research, and communications staff to design and implement an organizing and policy plan to advance key regional priorities.

The NRO will work remotely and should reside in New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Maine with regional travel expectations and occasional travel outside of the area (20% travel, depending on location).

Essential Duties of this role:

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Build and strengthen partnerships with BGA’s allies and partner organizations in the region to foster support for key initiatives and priorities;
  • Cultivate relationships with labor, environmental, environmental justice, and racial equity leaders across the Northeast to advance shared goals;
  • Model inclusive behaviors and actively promote DEI principles through personal development, organizational practices, and by addressing implicit biases;

Policy Development and Advocacy

  • Collaborate with the Director of Offshore Wind to develop and execute a comprehensive regional strategy, including policy development, direct advocacy, and information gathering;
  • Draft policy proposals and engage with policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders to promote innovative approaches that enhance job quality, equity, and domestic supply chain development in offshore wind energy deployment;
  • Facilitate coordination among partners, organizations, and state agencies to share knowledge and best practices;
  • Monitor and evaluate proceedings, state legislation, and actions related to offshore wind energy, ensuring alignment with BGA’s platform and objectives;

Convening and Facilitation

  • Organize and lead meetings, workshops, and forums with key stakeholders to drive progress on core policy priorities related to job quality and domestic supply chains in offshore wind energy;
  • Regularly attend and represent BGA at virtual and in-person offshore wind industry events, coalition meetings, workshops, and conferences to stay informed about industry trends and developments;

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the communications team to deliver consistent and impactful messaging to diverse audiences, including media outlets, policymakers, and the general public;
  • Work closely with other BGA staff to develop and refine policy proposals and comments that align with BGA’s state and regional priorities; and
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support organizational goals.

EXPERIENCE

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 1-3 years professional experience in policy organizing, legislative or regulatory work or related field;
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working collaboratively on issues related to climate change, renewable energy, manufacturing, and/or labor issues;
  • Experience in, or basic understanding of, the evolving Offshore Wind policy landscape.

Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of and experience in the political landscape in the Northeast.
  • Experience with labor unions.
  • Experience creating and implementing policy organizing plans.
  • Experience in, or understanding of, electrical transmission and the power sector.

COMPENSATION

A compensation package including competitive salary with annual COLA increases, generous paid time off and 100% employer-funded health benefits is available.

Salary

The salary range is $80,000 – $95,000 annually, exempt. BGA utilizes salary bands to ensure pay equity and transparency. Final salary within the salary range will be based on experience level and qualifications.

Sr. Policy Manager, IEC - Hybrid (Chicago OR Springfield, IL)

 

About the Position

The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF), IEC’s 501c3 sister organization, is looking for a Sr. Policy Manager to support our state government affairs work. Sustainability Program Manager – Navy Pier

Who: Navy Pier, Inc. (NPI) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation established in 2011 to maintain and oversee the redevelopment at Navy Pier.

What: Sustainability Program Manager – Development Department. A sustainability program manager supports the implementation of sustainability programs across the organization or on various projects throughout the organization. They are expected to foster a positive image about the organization in the public eye and internally, encouraging sustainability thinking in the employee base at all levels and ideally to examine ways of cost-saving while promoting such green credentials.
The sustainability program manager will advise our organization on how to minimize our impact on the environment and, in some cases, oversee the delivery of impact reduction strategies. They typically develop and then measure the success of the schemes for waste management, renewable energy, recycling, and pollution reduction and prevention. Specific job tasks include:

Transportation Air Quality Planner I & II - Dallas-Fort Worth MPO (2 positions)

Who: The North Central Texas Council of Governments - Transportation Department - Air Quality Planning and Operations

What: The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Transportation Department is seeking an entry- or mid-level Air Quality Planner to assist with the creation and implementation of innovative emissions reduction strategies to improve air quality in the North Central Texas Region. A successful candidate should have an interest in environmental impacts of transportation as well as alternative fuels. Specific projects include, but are not limited to, the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition and Electric Vehicles North Texas initiatives. Typical initiatives include a wide range of vehicle and technology programs, research and demonstration projects, and regional air quality policies. Work is collaborative in nature, working not only within the NCTCOG team, but also with external stakeholders, including fleets, citizen groups, and associations.

Director of Policy – Audubon Great Lakes (Chicago)

Who: Audubon Great Lakes (AGL) is the regional arm of National Audubon Society, working across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin and the lead office for Audubon’s Great Lakes conservation strategy.

What: Reporting to AGL’s Executive Director, the Director of Policy is responsible for localizing national policy priorities, building state-based policy agendas, and collaborating with the Executive Director to elevate Audubon’s leadership in the region. This new position has been created to build political power to advance conservation policy to protect birds and the places they need across the region.
The Director of Policy is responsible for leading the policy efforts and overall governmental affairs functions for the five states managed by Audubon Great Lakes as well as leading conservation policy strategy across the Great Lakes Basin. As part of AGL’s senior leadership team, s/he will collaborate with the Executive Director and senior conservation policy, fundraising, and engagement leads at AGL and across National Audubon to develop a regional policy agenda to advance both state and federal priorities. The Director of Policy will collaborate closely with the Director of Engagement to successfully engage our bipartisan network and conservation partners for successful policy campaigns and conservation leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Initiate and implement programs related to energy efficiency, green building, carbon footprint reduction, urban habitat enhancement, and other sustainability/conservation efforts.
•Maintain and update as necessary a 5-year Environmental Stewardship Strategic Plan to guide the city's improvement of its environmental performance across all departments and lines of business.

•Knowledge and professional experience in delivering programs for energy conservation and renewable energy, climate change strategies, and environmental sustainability programs.

The Urban & Environmental Policy Department at Occidental College invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level.  The position will begin fall of 2016.
We invite candidates that support the commitment of the department to social, economic, and environmental justice in their teaching, research, and service. While the area of specialization is open, we are particularly interested in candidates whose work focuses on the intersection of the urban environment and political economy in the context of the development of a greener and more sustainable economy. We would like to interview candidates who focus their research and teaching on the green economy, natural resources, energy, climate, and food issues, and their relation to race and class. The appointment will support the department’s interdisciplinary curricular and research efforts that integrate urban and environmental studies and policy. Candidates from a wide variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to economics, environmental studies, energy and resources, environmental science, geography, political ecology, political economy, and urban planning.  Priority will be given to candidates whose teaching and research are connected to policy and planning issues, and emphasize the links between environmental issues and racial, economic and social inequality and have demonstrated experience helping students evaluate and engage in community-based learning and research that advance efforts to create just and livable communities.  We are interested in how the work of our new colleague relates to college’s location in the Los Angeles area.
Our new colleague will be expected to teach five courses a year, including shared teaching of our intro-level course Environment and Society (UEP 101) and our two-semester senior comps course (UEP 410 and 411) in which students undertake a year-long applied research project, often with a community “client” or partner.  We are interested in candidates who will teach some of the following courses: Urbanization and the Environment, Resilient Cities, Food and the Environment, Food Justice, Climate Justice,  Energy and the Economy, Natural Resource Policy, and the Green Economy. We also want our new colleague to develop his/her own courses that will add to our existing curriculum and excite our students. There are opportunities for team-teaching with faculty within our department and in other Occidental departments.
The successful candidate will join a strong department (UEP) that currently has four full-time faculty members as well as affiliated faculty in other departments and practitioners who teach a variety of applied courses as adjunct faculty. UEP also houses a student-run garden and our students and faculty have led several campus-wide sustainability efforts. Our faculty and students also work with our action research center, the Urban and Environmental Policy Institute (UEPI).  UEPI has a staff of 12 researchers and advocates who conduct social justice research and administer programs that advance its social change mission, such as the Farm to School/Pre-School program and numerous planning, policy, and community-engaged initiatives.  It has become an institutional hub for many community engagement initiatives on campus, in Los Angeles, and nationally.
Our new colleague will help further the college’s goals related to community engagement. We pride ourselves on giving our students robust opportunities for experiential learning, community-based research, and internships. Our department has helped lead efforts on campus, along with the Center for Community Based Learning and the Office of Community Engagement, to link the college’s academic program with community involvement, including expanding community internships and community-oriented research projects for our students.

The School of Public Affairs and Civic Engagement is an interdisciplinary school of public affairs oriented scholars formed in 2012 that offers degree programs in criminal justice studies, environmental studies, public administration and urban studies and planning.  Candidates would primarily be responsible for expanding the School’s curricular offerings in environmental studies, but candidates who can also contribute more broadly to the School’s mission are strongly desired.

Qualifications:
Applicants from a wide range of specializations related to Environmental Policy and Politics will be considered; Ph.D. in a related discipline or J.D. from an accredited program required.

Candidates should have a strong background in environmental policy and politics, particularly issues of environmental justice, from an interdisciplinary perspective. 

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in the areas of their specialization, as well as Introduction to Environmental Studies, Environmental Law and Policy, and Research Methods for Environmental Studies.  Candidates may also teach courses in the Environmental Administration elective emphasis in the Masters in Public Administration program.

Excellence in teaching and scholarship must be demonstrated, and candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body.

Responsibilities: The position requires undergraduate teaching in Environmental Studies, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments. Rank and salary: Assistant Professor.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
