Climate Education Research Analyst - Climate Educators Network

 Position: Climate Education Research Analyst

Location: Remote

Duration: 60 Days (45 Days for submission + 15 Days for review)

Background

This project focuses on the integration of climate and environmental education in school

curricula which is needed for preparing future generations to tackle environmental challenges.

The research will examine educational, policy and curricular reforms at both national and state

levels in India focusing on some key states - West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and

possibly Karnataka and Jharkhand.

Objectives

● Analyze educational discourse with a focus on key drivers and barriers in implementing

climate education reforms at national and state levels.

● Identify common themes and differences in approaches between national and state

policies.

Scope of Work

The Analyst will conduct secondary research that will include:

● Reviewing national and state-level policy including white papers and official statements.

● Analyzing media coverage and public opinion reports.

● Accessing information through RTI filings, if required.

● Mapping policy gaps and assessing alignment with climate and environmental education

goals.

Responsibilities

● Conduct literature reviews and data analysis on relevant educational reforms.

● Draft concise reports and policy briefs with recommendations for key stakeholders.

● Assist in preparing a comprehensive final report consolidating research findings.

● Participate in regular progress discussions with the Lead Researcher.

Deliverables

● Initial Findings Summary: A preliminary report on progress and insights.

● Comprehensive Report: Detailed findings (best practices, gaps) and recommendations.

● Policy Briefs: Targeted recommendations for state and national stakeholders

Research Analyst - Democracy Forward

Democracy Forward seeks a highly collaborative early career analyst to join its team of litigators and policy professionals to help track and assess emerging K-12 education policy and legal trends at the state and local levels.  The Education Research Analyst will help drive Democracy Forward’s research and data collection of state and local attacks on educational equity (including censorship, book bans, anti-diversity curriculum measures, and legal challenges to pro-equity policies, privatization, and community responses).  The role will identify and track these trends, help maintain and develop Democracy Forward’s data systems, work across the organization to develop timely and insightful analysis, and support Democracy Forward’s collaboration with key stakeholders and partners outside the organization to turn data into action.

Research Analyst - Kentucky Center for Economic Policy

Overview   

The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy (KyPolicy) seeks to hire a Research Analyst to address Worker Justice issues. The research analyst will conduct analysis of worker justice issues and collaborate with unions and community partners to build power and advance economic justice in Kentucky.  

The position will carry out research to support organizing and advocacy efforts aimed at empowering workers and improving job quality. The analyst will conduct data analysis and author reports, briefs and other products that clearly and compellingly describe issues and conditions. They will also support organizing and issue campaigns through communications, coalition building and outreach. A special initial focus will be on new opportunities created through the implementation of federal industrial policy, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS and Science Act.

Economic Development Incentives Research Analyst - Good Jobs First

Summary

Good Jobs First, a non-profit research center in Washington, DC seeks a research analyst to collect, compile and analyze data on economic development subsidy programs, deals and costs across the United States.

We promote corporate and government accountability in economic development, tracking the use of economic development subsidies as well as corporate misconduct. Through our databases, especially Subsidy Tracker and Tax Break Tracker, we provide the public with company- and locality-specific data related to which companies are receiving economic development subsidies and how much revenue communities lose to tax abatements.

This position is ideal for someone who can work independently but is also energized by working collaboratively – our researchers regularly work on joint projects and co-author published pieces. The Othering and Belonging Institute (“the Institute”) at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, stakeholders, policymakers, and communicators to identify and challenge the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society and to create transformative change. The Institute is a vibrant hub of researchers, community leaders, policymakers, artists, and communicators that advances research, policy, and work related to marginalized communities. We engage in innovative narrative, communications, and cultural strategies that attempt to re- frame the public discourse around marginality and inclusion and respond to issues that require immediate and long-term action. Our work is informed by understanding how structures and systems work to create or exacerbate othering and exclusion.

The Network for Transformative Change comprises multiple projects that aim to leverage the expertise and power of a cross-sector network to bring about innovations, knowledge, and strategies towards a society based on belonging. The Network looks both inward at the ways our social justice movements operate to help shape their work and outward at the population level to develop empirically grounded knowledge that can be translated into actionable interventions. Both domains strive to shape capacity, strategy, and innovations that will ultimately impact the infrastructure that sustains progress along the lines of our vision and values.

The Blueprint for Belonging (B4B) Analyst works with the Network Program Director to develop and carry out partnership strategy and program activities in the areas of narrative research, narrative strategies and/or trainings and capacity building for narrative change. This position is central to OBI's effort to cultivate new and ongoing partnerships with community power building, civic engagement, labor, academic and other sectors. The position will also develop and oversee a research application and dissemination strategy that seeks opportunities to move key lessons from research into action and scalable strategies for bridging across social and political divides. The position is also responsible for seeking new opportunities for building out the Network. Taken together, this position will support the creation of new strategic pathways for the Network in partnership with a broad cross section of OBI partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates implementation with cross-organizational partnerships to set agendas, manage resources, and carry out program (from research and product development to strategy and implementation).
  • Researches and drafts complex proposals, reports, briefings, and trainings.
  • In collaboration with community based and other partners, provides strategy development for narrative change initiative.
  • Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements and / or implications for field level recommendations and develops reports capturing lessons.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and an ability to work across social, economic or political divides.
  • Grasp of contemporary social justice movement organizational and political landscape including prevailing analyses shaping strategy.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses. Specifically, experience with applying research findings to policy, digital, or field strategy.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Experience conducting original research using mixed methods including polling, focus groups and interviews.
  • Understands how to move ideas and research into applications for field building and fundraising.
  • Full understanding of the civic engagement field and traditions in community power building sector.

  • This is a two-year, full-time (40 hours/week), Contract position, and eligible for full UC benefits. A contract renewal is possible after two years pending available funding.
  • This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience up to $93,000 and informed by our organizational equity-based salary scale.

Research Analyst, Good Jobs First, DC

Good Jobs First, a non-profit research center in Washington, DC seeks a research analyst to work on its Violation Tracker project.

This heavily used resource, produced under the auspices of GJF’s Corporate Research Project, collects data on penalties paid by companies for regulatory violations and other types of misconduct. It contains more than 500,000 entries covering federal, state and local enforcement cases as well as class action lawsuits. Violation Tracker’s users include corporate accountability activists as well as journalists, academics, lawyers and public officials. We have also created a tracker for the United Kingdom and are planning a multi-country version.

 

The applicant should have at least two years of experience doing corporate research on a variety of companies and industries, preferably at a union, an environmental group or other non-profit organization. Applicants should have experience working with big datasets and preferably have web-scraping and data-cleaning skills.

 

We are looking for someone with a commitment to economic, social and racial justice who is passionate about documenting corporate misconduct and who does not mind sifting through large amounts of data.

 

Salary range: $60,000 to $70,000. The Good Jobs First benefit package includes a platinum-level health plan (including dental and vision) with a 100-percent employer-paid premium as well as a 403(b) retirement plan with generous employer contributions.

Research Analyst, Cook County Sheriff

Who: Cook County Sheriff's Office

WhatThe Cook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is seeking a full time Research Analyst. The Research Analyst will assist the CCSO’s Director of Research in producing specific, timely and data-driven analyses on various operations throughout the CCSO, including the detainee population of the CCDOC, staffing levels, law enforcement operations, and other CCSO initiatives and programs. Under the direction of the Director of Research, the Research Analyst will advise on policies and strategies based on strategic data analysis of the detainee population, staffing levels, recidivism and other program outcomes. The Research Analyst will study and advise on data-driven proactive policing practices and policies, based on statistical data and other research. The Research Analyst will assist in collecting and analyzing data related to Sheriff’s initiatives in the Department of Corrections, Sheriff’s Police, and Court Services using statistical programs. The Research Analyst will be responsible for performing specialized administrative work which may include a wide range of administrative duties, and must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of various aspects of CCSO operations.

Responsibilities:

Performs ongoing analyses of jail detainee population data and develops reports/research bulletins describing the characteristics of the jail’s detainee population, tracking and analyzing changes in these characteristics over time.  

Performs assignments related to the analysis of classification, inmate housing needs and population management.  

Assists with evaluations of Cook County Sheriff’s Office programs, including grant funded programs to improve or expand programs over time.

Performs specific analyses of jail detainee population data to develop strategic interventions for subsets of populations detained in the Cook County Department of Corrections; assists the Director of Research in developing data driven policies and programs designed to reduce the population of the Cook County Department of Corrections. 

Advises on the development of policies to address specific needs of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office based on research and analytical findings. 

Conducts analyses on data from the Circuit Court of Cook County, other stakeholders in the County’s criminal justice system, data from local law enforcement agencies, Cermak Health Services, and Cook County Medical Examiner to document how decisions and operations of systems external to the jail impact the population and operation of the Cook County Department of Corrections. 

Researches and analyzes data relating to law enforcement strategies. Participates in review and validation of computer-aided dispatch data.   

Sets and meets goals for themselves and the team; accountable for project deadlines and successful completion of projects. 

Performs various administrative functions, including answering telephone calls, sorting documentation and filing, assisting in verifying, organizing, entering and reviewing data.

Attends regular meetings regarding data analysis; prepares detailed reports and presentations on a regular basis, as assigned by the Director of Research.

Ensures that all sensitive and restricted information and materials are handled with complete confidentiality and discretion.

Capable of performing duties with minimal supervision and managing projects from beginning to end.


Qualifications:

Knowledge and skill in the use of databases and software applications, with the ability to create, edit and analyze data; ability to collect, analyze and evaluate evidence, statistics and other information to draw logical conclusions.

Experience cleaning and analyzing data in STATA, R, SAS, Python, or similar statistical programming language.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to prepare graphs, charts, tables and other illustrative documents.

Excellent report writing skills.

Knowledge of statistical analysis.

Ability to use statistical research techniques.

Good attention to detail, ability to proof, verify and edit complex written reports written by others or by oneself, and to communicate/make changes and improvements as needed during the report review process.

Skill in interacting with others to investigate, gather and review confidential materials, information and data.

One (1) or more years of experience in the use of R, STATA or other statistical analysis software. 

Ability to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons or midnights; must be capable of working holidays and weekends, as required.

Must successfully pass background investigation(s) with results showing no past criminal record of conviction for a felony or misdemeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Adequate ability to perform mapping and analytical tasks using Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or comparable software package.
