Planner I - Village of Orland Park

Who: The Village of Orland Park’s Development Services Department seeks a Planner I to be part of our progressive development efforts.

What: Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for performing professional planning duties. Selected candidate will review development plans for conformance to local codes, plans, policy; inspect and survey development sites; collect, organize, and analyze information pertaining to plans and developments; advise developers, prepare reports and graphics for Plan Commission and Village Board review; obtain resident and staff input; recommend board actions; recommend improvements to the development review process.

Planning & Policy Program Manager - American Public Transportation Association (DC)

Who: The American Public Transportation Association’s mission is to strengthen and improve public transportation, APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation and information sharing. Associate Policy Analyst - The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning

Who: The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is our region’s official comprehensive planning organization. The agency and its partners are implementing ON TO 2050, a new long-range comprehensive regional plan, to help the seven counties and 284 communities of northeastern Illinois address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, environmental, and other quality-of-life issues.

What: CMAP is hiring an Associate Policy Analyst who will support its economic development and regional planning efforts. The policy analyst will advance inclusive growth, resilience, and prioritized investment in the region through policy research and writing, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement. The position will also support transportation programming and local technical assistance projects.
The position will focus on developing actionable strategies for regional economic and workforce development, as well as encouraging their implementation with partners. Tasks will include managing research, collecting and analyzing data, and effectively communicating recommendations orally and in writing. This position will also monitor and provide direction regarding federal, state, and local public policy on issues highlighted in ON TO 2050. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a broad understanding of the interactions between infrastructure, land use, and public policy, with a concentration on the region’s economic, industrial, demographic, and labor force trends.

Director of Operations for Economic Development, Chicago Central Area Committee and Alliance for Regional Development

Who: The Alliance for Regional Development and Chicago Central Area Committee (CCAC) are Chicago-based economic development organizations that collaborate on coordinated programs and led by a management team of employees and skilled consultants.

What: This position is a dual role with the Chicago Central Area Committee (CCAC) and the Alliance for Regional Development. At CACC, the Director of Operations will support the President & CEO with guiding cross-jurisdictional collaborative activities of more than 100 high-level governmental, commercial, and institutional leaders committed to improving the Milwaukee, Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana corridor’s mega-region economy in the areas of Workforce, Transportation and Water. This effort is part of a regional planning pilot project funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and regional sponsors, in response to the recommendations of an OECD Territorial Review of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Housing Program Officer - Steans Family Foundation (Chicago)

Who: The Steans Family Foundation (SFF) was launched in 1986 to significantly improve the life outcomes of children whose parents do not earn a living wage. The Foundation’s first philanthropic investment was to a class of sixth graders through the “I Have A Dream Program”. SFF provided holistic support to ensure students successfully matriculated to high school, enrolled in college and graduated, or successfully entered the world of work. In 1996, SFF began to focus on the revitalization of vulnerable communities and made a strategic decision to concentrate its grantmaking in North Lawndale, located on the west side of Chicago. In 2016, the SFF expanded its reach to North Chicago, an urban community located north of Chicago in Lake County. The Steans Family Foundation recognizes that effective neighborhood revitalization efforts must come from and be sustained by community leaders and uses this guiding principle to build capacity in partnering with communities.

What: SFF seeks a full-time Program Officer to work with community partners and leaders, public officials, residents, funders and other stakeholders to create, implement and document community-led strategic efforts and further SFF’s inclusive housing investment goals.

Specifically, the Program Officer has responsibility for developing and implementing a new programmatic strategy focused on housing for North Lawndale. This work involves formulating community-specific housing priorities, investment strategies and policy alternatives that drive social change and promote neighborhood transformation while preserving the unique cultural heritage of North Lawndale. The strategy will center on assessing and identifying a range of high quality affordable housing needs and development opportunities.

Director of Public Policy - Greater Chicago Food Depository

Who: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank. We provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. We do this in partnership with 700 agencies and programs including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and responses for children, older adults and veterans. This network distributes food where it is needed most throughout Cook County.

What: The Director of Public Policy serves as part of the Community Impact leadership team, leading the organization's strategies to leverage policy change to end hunger. The Director serves as an expert on legislative policy related to food insecurity, public benefits, healthcare, and other anti-poverty issues significantly impacting individual and families with low incomes.

The Director identifies policy legislative and administration opportunities through written proposals that build a case for advancement. Additionally, the Director supports the development of strategic communication campaigns designed to mobilize coalition partners. Annually, directs the process to develop the policy agenda for approval by the CEO and the Board of Directors. Leads the charge to expand benefits outreach services by creating new collaborations to connect clients to additional public benefits and support. Leads a staff working on policy, advocacy, and benefits outreach. Success requires collaboration with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders.

Coordinator I, Electric Vehicle Infrastructure - Center for Sustainable Energy (San Diego)

Who: Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is an independent, mission-driven nonprofit organization with offices in San Diego, Oakland, Los Angeles and Boston. We accelerate the adoption of clean and efficient energy solutions via program administration, technical assistance, policy innovation, and other forms of market facilitation. We are uniquely positioned and engaged with a variety of stakeholders and market actors, including policy-makers, state and federal agencies, regional and local governments, utilities, business and civic leaders, and individuals in both the general market and equity sectors. Our technical areas of focus include distributed energy resources (renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, fuel cells, combined heat and power) and clean transportation.

What: The Coordinator is key member of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure team providing broad support on project activities and developing expertise related to the planning and deploying electric vehicle charging solutions. Under general supervision from the Senior Project Manager and EVI team staff, the Project Coordinator will assume responsibilities that include conducting research, developing regional planning documents, leading communications with clients and industry stakeholders, building awareness/education/adoption of EVs and EV infrastructure nationwide.

Planning Director - Friends of the Chicago River

Who: Since 1979, Friends of the Chicago River has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River system for the benefit of people, plants and animals; and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, and easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region.

What: Friends of the Chicago River seeks a planning director to advance our mission to improve and protect the Chicago River system and help realize our vision of the river as a 156 mile blue/green corridor of healthy accessible open space that supports and connects people and wildlife. A key member of the leadership team, the planning director will be conservation minded with an advanced degree in urban planning, or a related field, and have demonstrated experience communicating with a diverse audience of partners, stakeholders, and government agencies. As the only organization exclusively dedicated to improving the Chicago River, Friends seeks an individual who has experience with and is committed to the environment and views the river as an important part of the history, culture, and future of the Chicago region.

Midwest Senior Outreach Coordinator - Union of Concerned Scientists (Chicago)

Who: The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent national nonprofit whose scientists and engineers work to solve some of our planet’s most pressing environmental and safety problems. Associate Editor, Skyscraper Center Database - CTBUH (Chicago)

Who: The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is seeking an associate editor to work alongside the existing team on The Skyscraper Center: the world’s pre-eminent database of tall building information. The Skyscraper Center has 30,000+ entries, containing images and vital statistics on tall buildings around the world. It serves not only as a data repository, but also as an increasingly important clearinghouse for resources and information the Council generates, from news articles, videos, and research papers, to chapter and member activities.

What: The data in The Skyscraper Center also serves the hundreds of media requests the Council receives each year. As a publicly accessible resource, it is a critical component of the research that the Council, our members, and industry leaders, conduct. This new colleague will help us strengthen our ability to accurately cover the rapidly increasing pace of skyscraper design and construction, and to help us develop and maintain the high quality and integrity of data already established.

Program Coordinator - North River Commission (Chicago)

Who: North River Commission is a community-based nonprofit organization founded in 1962 by concerned residents and neighborhood institutions. NRC unites over 100 civic associations, businesses, schools, institutions and places of worship on the northwest side of Chicago to improve the quality of life for all constituents in our community by creating affordable housing, quality education, arts & cultural endeavors, open spaces, and stable neighborhood businesses.

What: The Program Coordinator is essential in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships among stakeholders that result in impactful program delivery. The position leads the affordable housing program and community-engaged planning and development. The position collaborates with the Economic Development Coordinator to deliver services in the Special Service Area and through the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce. The position collaborates with the Executive Director on securing financial support for programs. As needed, the Program Coordinator collaborates with staff, interns, and volunteers on shared projects. Race and Equity Coordinator - City of Edina, MN

Who: City of Edina, MN - Department of Administration

What: The Race and  Equity Coordinator is responsible for integrating race and equity principals into all operations, projects and services of the City of Edina.
Essential Functions:
  • Create, lead and manage change to ensure race & equity principles are emphasized as part of Edina's culture and standard operating procedures.

Who: US Census Bureau - Department of Commerce. This position is located with the U.S. Census Bureau's Regional Census Center (RCC) located in Chicago, IL.

Director of Policy - Heartland Alliance

Who: Heartland Alliance - Research and Policy Division.
Heartland Alliance informs public policy decisions and advances solutions to improve opportunities and quality of life for people experiencing inequity, living in poverty, and facing danger.  Heartland Alliance’s Research & Policy Division engages in research on social issues and solutions, policy and systems change, and field building nationwide. The division is home to the Social IMPACT Research Center , Heartland Alliance’s Policy & Advocacy team Heartland Alliance’s National Initiatives on Economic Opportunity.

What: The Director of Policy provides overall direction for the Policy & Advocacy (P&A) team and engages actively in social policy initiatives aligned with Heartland Alliance’s mission and vision. We specifically focus on issues related to poverty, employment and economic security, justice, safety, health care, human services, immigration, financial equity and housing/homelessness. At the state and local level, the team works to draft and advance legislative and administrative solutions across our areas of focus; produces information to inform decision-makers and advance our campaigns; and builds strategic alliances and coalitions to lift up an amplified voice to create systemic change. The team also weighs in strategically on national and local issues to advance the needs of Heartland Alliance programs and participants. Director responsibilities include assessing the landscape for new opportunities, positioning, and partnerships as well as monitoring emerging issues, trends, and innovations. The Director is part of the Research & Policy leadership team. The Director’s management responsibilities include oversight of the P&A team; creating and managing department budget; serving as fundraising lead; and managing reporting to internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the Director is responsible for positioning the department within internal leadership bodies and external settings including serving as a media spokesperson. Transportation Planner I (Transit Operations) - North Central Texas Council of Governments (Arlington, TX)

Who: The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG's purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. Since 1974, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area.

What: NCTCOG Transportation Department is seeking entry- and/or mid-level Transportation Planners to support the implementation of transit projects and/or administration of federal transit grant program activities. These positions will work with public and private transportation providers, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders. Urban Sustainability Program Manager – Yale University

Who: Yale University Office of Sustainability

What: The Urban Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for leading key efforts to enhance collaboration between Yale and area partners on transportation, community engagement, land use, and biodiversity. This position promotes sustainability both within Yale and the New Haven community, in-person and through the use of online platforms, and partners with managers from various city departments and non-governmental organizations as part of Yale’s effort to enhance collaboration between Yale, New Haven, and the surrounding region. Business Services Analyst II (Planning & Development) - Memphis & Shelby County

Who: Memphis and Shelby County (Tennessee) - Department of Planning and Development

What: The Business Services Analyst is responsible for the review, analysis, and evaluation of processes, systems, and user needs for projects and procedures associated with individual departments or the division; coordinate processes to ensure that the information systems support departmental business operational needs; serves as the first point of contact for coworkers and departmental liaisons regarding the use of designated information systems; gathers data to develop or contribute to the development of business plans and strategies; tracks performance of core business processes associated with individual departments or the division; assist the County IT staff in understanding the operational need for both automated and manual solutions to the business systems and procedures. Village Planner (Dept. of Community & Economic Develoment) - Brookfield, IL

Who: The Village of Brookfield, IL, population 19,500+, is accepting applications for the position of Village Planner, a position available in the Community and Economic Development Department. This position will report directly to the Community and Economic Development Director.

What: Qualified candidates must have experience in the planning field with excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytic ability. Candidates should be capable of evaluating and managing commercial, residential, and mixed-use development proposals, meeting with the public to discuss development proposals, assisting with long range planning projects, and presenting before boards, commissions, and elected officials. Because the position requires direct interaction with various constituent groups including residents, developers, public, etc., a friendly customer service orientation is necessary.

Urban Designer II - Farr Associates (Chicago)

Who: Farr Associates is an architecture, urban planning, and urban design firm located in Chicago, Illinois, dedicated to creating sustainable urban places. What: We are growing and are seeking an Urban Designer II. Projects in the Urban Design Studio focus on master planning, site planning, urban design, zoning, and community outreach, with a strong emphasis on implementation.
