The New River Valley Planning District Commission is seeking an entry or mid-level planner to join the staff of a regional planning agency that strives to deliver innovative solutions and high quality technical assistance. The region of the New River Valley includes 12 local governments and two university members, located within the Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford, MSA.
With a collaborative approach, this position will assist with the development of professional plans, reports, and studies. Coordinate and support technical committee and working group meetings.
In particular, the Regional Planner will contribute to a variety of local, state, and federal programs such as comprehensive plans, recreation plans, transportation and land use studies, as well as the opportunity to deliver technical assistance across multiple planning fields depending on skill sets.
The successful candidate will have:
- A working knowledge of planning principles, methodology, and practices and in-depth knowledge in one or more planning specializations.
- Poses creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information and analyze data.
- Have the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, and group facilitation experience.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a BA/BS degree in a related field; a Master’s Degree is a plus.
Salary Range $30,000 to $38,000. Excellent benefits package.
