Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Architecture, University of Virginia School of Architecture - Charlottesville, VA

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Architecture

University of Virginia School of Architecture
Professional Area:
Architecture
Location:
CharlottesvilleVA
UVA School of Architecture seeks accomplished designers and educators who will make a significant contribution to innovative teaching and creative research in the Department of Architecture. The School invites applications for one full time position as: Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), Associate Professor (Tenure Track or Tenured) or Full Professor (Tenured). It is expected that the Full Professor (Tenured) will assume the position of Department of Architecture Chair upon conclusion of the current Chair's term. This position is expected to begin 8/25/15, rank dependent on previous experience and expertise.

The Architecture Department is committed to advancing knowledge in the processes leading to the practice of Architecture through design pedagogies that encompass four areas of research:

-The exploration of innovation in design processes and practices throughout the public realm.
-The interdependence of cultural forces and ecological processes in the biophysical world.
-The relationship between architectural form and material behaviors.
-The implications of emerging technologies for the design of structures, sites and systems.

We seek exceptional designers with a practice explicitly connected to a design research agenda to teach: design studios, required lecture courses in the core curriculum, and elective seminars in the candidate's area of expertise. It is expected that each member of the faculty lead dialogue in their field of expertise, with the potential to direct programs and assume positions of leadership in the department. Beyond excellence in design, we seek individuals with a high level of discourse based on explorations in material research, innovative representation and fabrication, structural concepts, sustainable design and/or large-scale integration of programs and sites. Candidates should be both radically grounded in visceral practices while easily involved in the currencies of conceptual discourse.

Qualifications: Terminal professional degree required; professional license and/or Ph.D. preferred, but not required. Evidence of prior studio teaching experience is highly recommended.

To apply, visit https://jobs.virginia.edu and search on Posting #0615440. Complete a Candidate Profile online, and electronically attach the following:
1) Cover letter with a succinct narrative description of interest in and qualifications for the position, including a summary of teaching experience and design/research accomplishments;
2) Curriculum Vitae;
3) Statement of teaching philosophy and experience including a short description of proposed courses;
4) Statement of research interests, goals and plans for future development; and
5) A list of three references with contact information for those references (note your professional relationship with each).
Later in the selection process you may be asked to provide an electronic version of a portfolio the specifics of which will be described at such time as the request is made.

Review of applications will begin 1/10/15; however, the position will remain open until filled. Compensation for the position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
