Acting Director, The Chicago Office of the Inter-University Program on Latino Research (IUPLR), UIC - Chicago, IL

The Chicago Office of the Inter-University Program on Latino Research (IUPLR) is searching for an Acting Director.  The job duties of this position are:
·         Coordinates and oversees the Research Working Groups for IUPLR.
·         Directs the distribution of IUPLR grant monies to the Center research working group. Issues calls for proposals and participates in the review of applications with the Executive Committee.
·         Oversees the financial workings of the IUPLR, including grants, invoices and deposits.
·         Prepares related financial reports for the Board/Foundation.
·         Oversees the planning and organization of the Annual Conference, including the call for proposals, coordinating with the Conference Planning Committee regarding conference matters, reaches out to Latin American Partners and maintains communication with the consortium centers.
·         Serves as the Secretary of the Board of Directors. Responsible for calling Board Meetings, takes and maintains minutes for the Board and manages the preparation of the Annual Board Book. Schedules and organizes the Quarterly Executive Committee Meetings, preparing the required information as needed.
·         Plans, assigns and reviews the work of the staff to ensure that group objectives are met. Hires, trains and supervises the staff which currently includes a Project Director from the Mellon Foundation Fellows Program and a Mellon Foundation Fellows Assistant Research Assistant.
·         Perform other related duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience

·         Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, Social Sciences or a related field. A related Master’s Degree or graduate level course work is preferred.
·         Requires in-depth knowledge of the Latin American/Latino Communities.
·         Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required, in both oral and written communication skills.
·         Excellent organization, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) communication, presentation and computer/pc skills are required. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office to include: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, along with other required software.
