Director of Public Policy - Greater Chicago Food Depository

Who: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank. We provide food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. We do this in partnership with 700 agencies and programs including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and responses for children, older adults and veterans. This network distributes food where it is needed most throughout Cook County.

What: The Director of Public Policy serves as part of the Community Impact leadership team, leading the organization's strategies to leverage policy change to end hunger. The Director serves as an expert on legislative policy related to food insecurity, public benefits, healthcare, and other anti-poverty issues significantly impacting individual and families with low incomes.

The Director identifies policy legislative and administration opportunities through written proposals that build a case for advancement. Additionally, the Director supports the development of strategic communication campaigns designed to mobilize coalition partners. Annually, directs the process to develop the policy agenda for approval by the CEO and the Board of Directors. Leads the charge to expand benefits outreach services by creating new collaborations to connect clients to additional public benefits and support. Leads a staff working on policy, advocacy, and benefits outreach. Success requires collaboration with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders.

Midwest Senior Outreach Coordinator - Union of Concerned Scientists (Chicago)

Who: The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent national nonprofit whose scientists and engineers work to solve some of our planet’s most pressing environmental and safety problems. UCS combines technical analysis and effective organizing and advocacy to create innovative, practical solutions for stemming the tide of global warming, sustainable food policy and agriculture, energy and transportation, fighting misinformation and reducing the threat of catastrophic nuclear war.

What: There’s a clean energy transition taking place throughout the country, and the UCS Climate & Energy team needs help to spur its continued momentum. We seek a Midwest Senior Outreach Coordinator to help us achieve our goals of ensuring a modern electricity grid that delivers greater amounts of renewable energy reliably and securely. Using the strength of UCS’s energy economics and analytic expertise, and our network of more than 25,000 scientific and technical experts, along with our 500,000 supporters, you will help move states in the Midwest to reduce emissions, expand renewable energy and clean energy storage capacity, and hasten the transition away from fossil fuel energy.

Within the CR department, Public Affairs is responsible for development and execution of multi-faceted communications and public affairs campaigns focused on JPMorgan Chase’s commitment to increase economic opportunity around the globe. Through a variety of communication channels, CR reaches key audiences, including opinion leaders, elected officials, philanthropic partners, stakeholders, issue experts and employees.

The Public Affairs regional team is an important part of the firm’s efforts to be a strong partner in each of the communities we serve by working with community leaders at the local level. The regional team supports the firm’s brand by localizing key messages and engaging a diverse group of market-based employees and business, nonprofit and civic leaders to showcase our philanthropic and business impact.

What: Public Affairs is seeking an Associate for the Midwest region. Candidate must have experience with policy and advocacy, communications and campaign execution and event management. The person in this role will promote engagement in the Midwest region, which includes IN, IL, KY, MI, MN, MO, OH, WI, and WV.
Responsibilities:

Management Assistant - Department of Defense - Temp Position (North Chicago)

Who: HQ United States Military Entrance Processing Command, North Chicago, IL, is a joint service command staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces.

What: This position is a TERM not to exceed 13 months. Responsibilities:

  • Provide management analysis support for the Department of Defense (DOD) Accession Program.


  • Coordinate semi-annual conference of stakeholders (i.e. assisting with location, schedule, agenda, and the assembling of appropriate material used for presentations).


  • Provide administrative/clerical work for the Accession Division.


  • Create various outputs (i.e. letters, reports, tabulated data, memoranda, spreadsheets, graphs and briefings) in rough draft and final form.

Manager, Innovation & Public Policy - Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago

Who: Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago is a nationally recognized nonprofit housing, counseling, lending, and community development organization which has loaned and leveraged investment of more than $1.1 billion in Chicago’s neighborhoods since its founding in 1975. The mission of NHS is “to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen their neighborhoods.”

What: The Manager is responsible for positioning NHS as a community development leader in creating innovative and community responsive policies and programs, and building the political will for the funding and implementation of those programs. The individual will work closely with NHS management and neighborhood staff to research and identify emerging trends, issues and needs. The Manager is responsible for convening internal staff, external partners, and government officials around developing, implementing and funding new programs and strategies. Works closely with Resource Development to develop and manage relationships with foundations, universities, think tanks and peer organizations that will support NHS’ Innovation and Policy work. Specific responsibilities include:

Project Coordinator - Port Authority of NY & NJ (Jersey City, NJ)

Who: Port Authority of NY & NJ - Technology Transition Team

What: The Project Coordinator will play a significant leadership role in the rollout of a series of new technology solutions for the 1,600+ member Port Authority Police Department. Building on the recent successful transition of the department onto a modernized, electronic crime and incident-reporting system, the coordinator will advance implementation of electronic motor vehicle accident reporting and citation writing. This work will involve project management, stakeholder coordination, and strategic communication tasks done in an office environment, as well as occasional field visits and observations conducted on-site at police commands in the NY and NJ area. This work will be overseen by the Security Technology group, under the Office of the Chief Security Officer. This is a full-time, one-year contract opportunity with the possibility to extend.

Research Associate @ The Urban Institute (DC)

Who: The Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center at the Urban Institute 

What: The work of the Center on Metropolitan Housing and Communities (Metro) focuses on a range of issues including housing, community and economic development, and other issues affecting vulnerable populations. Responsibilities 
• Develop or participate in developing research topics, proposals, and research designs 
• Maintain project budgets timelines, manage grant/contract relationships and deliverables 
• Develop and maintain partnerships with non-profits, government agency offices, funders and other entities to support implementation and evaluation of innovative policies and programs 
• Assist in developing subcontracts, managing subcontractor performance.
Assist with delivering training and technical assistance services to implantation partners and subcontractors as needed. 
• Supervise and/or participate in data collection and analysis 
• Interpret data from a policy perspective 
• Supervise less senior researchers, 
• Translate research for policymakers and other stakeholders. 
• Participate in writing final reports, presenting results to clients and stakeholders, drafting blogs and other technical assistance or guidance documents.

Program Assistant @ Illinois Public Health Institute (Chicago) (Jan.17 deadline)

Who: Illinois Public Health Institute - Center for Health and Information Technology 

What: IPHI is seeking an energetic and well‐organized team member to provide high-level planning, administration and operations support for a national grant-making and community support program. IPHI operates Data Across Sectors for Health (DASH) which identifies barriers, opportunities, promising practices and indicators of progress for multi-sector collaborations that connect information systems and share data for community health improvement. This position supports our national work at the nexus of health data, community collaboration and the social determinants of health, including support to cutting-edge communities across the country. Duties and responsibilities include program management and administration, communications and networking support, grants management and community support, and meetings and events management. 


Qualifications: Demonstrated experience and credentials in public health, public policy, healthcare, community services, or a related field. Minimum of one year of work experience in project or grants management, events management, health informatics, budget and financial reporting, health data and information systems, or program performance and evaluation. Candidates can write well, work fast, and succeed independently and in teams. We are especially interested in candidates who have experience working with diverse populations in a variety of community settings. The ideal candidate will have a master's degree and experience with project management, communications, or administration and events management.

This is a full-time position based at the Lincoln Institute's headquarters in Cambridge, MA.
