What: Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for performing professional planning duties. Selected candidate will review development plans for conformance to local codes, plans, policy; inspect and survey development sites; collect, organize, and analyze information pertaining to plans and developments; advise developers, prepare reports and graphics for Plan Commission and Village Board review; obtain resident and staff input; recommend board actions; recommend improvements to the development review process.

Kendig Keast Collaborative (KKC) seeks to hire immediately a Senior Associate for our community planning and design practice. This individual will join our national consulting firm with over 30 years of successful client interaction. We seek an individual who has the background and drive to assist our clients with community planning, design and implementation with an emphasis on long-range plans, zoning and development codes, and other master plans and projects (e.g., corridors, downtowns/districts, parks and trails, etc.).
The ideal candidate will have 10 or more years of background in community planning with hands-on experience in drafting plans and/or regulations. We seek candidates who have some experience in a public agency; however, experience in planning consulting is preferred. Examples of applying an entrepreneurial approach within a public agency may substitute for consulting experience. Preference will be given to those able to use ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and similar applications to produce high-quality documents with attractive maps and graphics.
Suitable education includes a master’s degree in urban planning or a related field, although a combination of a bachelor’s degree and related experience may be considered. AICP and/or other certifications (e.g., AIA, ASLA, CEcD, LEED-ND, etc.) are preferred but not required. Specific duties include:
- Writing plans and regulations, as well as delegation, coordination and oversight of assignments with project staff and sub consultants;
- Managing project budgets and schedules;
- Supervising and mentoring associates to complete projects effectively, while transferring knowledge and nurturing writing, presentation and graphics skills so associates can develop in their roles with the firm;
- Traveling to client jurisdictions;
- Leading public and leadership engagement and consensus-building;
- Participating in business development activities (proposals, teaming, interviews, etc.); and
- Presenting special topics or research at conferences.
