Director of Public Policy - Greater Chicago Food Depository

Who: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank, providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in the community. They do this in partnership with 700 agencies and programs including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and responses for children, older adults and veterans. This network distributes food where it is needed most throughout Cook County.

What: The Director of Public Policy serves as part of the Community Impact leadership team, leading the organization's strategies to leverage policy change to end hunger. The Director serves as an expert on legislative policy related to food insecurity, public benefits, healthcare, and other anti-poverty issues significantly impacting individual and families with low incomes.

The Director identifies policy legislative and administration opportunities through written proposals that build a case for advancement. Additionally, the Director supports the development of strategic communication campaigns designed to mobilize coalition partners. Annually, directs the process to develop the policy agenda for approval by the CEO and the Board of Directors. Leads the charge to expand benefits outreach services by creating new collaborations to connect clients to additional public benefits and support. Leads a staff working on policy, advocacy, and benefits outreach. Success requires collaboration with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders.

Corporate Responsibility, Public Affairs Midwest Associate - JPMorgan Chase

Who: JPMorgan Chase & Co. is a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2 trillion and operations in more than 60 countries. The Corporate Responsibility (CR) department is responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s CR agenda and initiatives by crafting goals, policies and initiatives that align with and support the firm’s business strategies and operational objectives and support the communities where we do business.

Within the CR department, Public Affairs is responsible for development and execution of multi-faceted communications and public affairs campaigns focused on JPMorgan Chase’s commitment to increase economic opportunity around the globe. Through a variety of communication channels, CR reaches key audiences, including opinion leaders, elected officials, philanthropic partners, stakeholders, issue experts and employees.

The Public Affairs regional team is an important part of the firm’s efforts to be a strong partner in each of the communities we serve by working with community leaders at the local level. The regional team supports the firm’s brand by localizing key messages and engaging a diverse group of market-based employees and business, nonprofit and civic leaders to showcase our philanthropic and business impact.

What: Public Affairs is seeking an Associate for the Midwest region. Candidate must have experience with policy and advocacy, communications and campaign execution and event management. The person in this role will promote engagement in the Midwest region, which includes IN, IL, KY, MI, MN, MO, OH, WI, and WV.
Responsibilities:

Community Organizer - PASO West Suburban Action Project

Who: PASO is deeply rooted in the Western Suburbs working from a gender justice perspective on issues impacting the Latinx and other communities of color. PASO’s model is unique as it combines empowerment tools, support, education, leadership development with policy/advocacy and immigration legal services. No other grassroots immigrant rights organization employs a multi-faceted approach by engaging those directly impacted to inform and lead the organization and its work. PASO’s approach to providing direct services, engaging in outreach, education and policy is informed and led by people directly impacted and in close collaboration with partner organizations and key institutional stakeholders.

What: West Suburban Action Project seeks a passionate and energetic community organizer to provide expertise in organizing, leadership development, membership development, and campaigns with a focus in empowering local community members to create systematic change.

Public Policy Manager – Uber (Chicago)

Who: Uber – Public Policy Team

What: The public policy team is responsible for working with policy makers and third parties to make the positive case for change.  That’s partly about building lasting relationships in the cities where we operate with elected officials and their staff so they understand the benefits of this new model.  It also about figuring out the best local regulatory framework and then developing campaigns to push reform through.
As Public Policy Manager, you will manage public policy, government relations, and third-party engagement for Uber throughout several states in the Central US, including Chicago and IL. You will report to the Director of Public Affairs in the Central US. Responsibilities include:  

Campaign Organizer – Active Transportation Alliance

Who: Active Transportation Alliance, Chicago.

What: Active Transportation Alliance is seeking an individual with political campaign or community organizing experience to join our fight for healthy, sustainable and equitable communities. The ideal candidate will have organizing experience in Chicago’s low-income communities and communities of color.
The Campaign Organizer will lead outreach for the 2018 statewide election and the 2019 municipal election cycles. The organizer will gather input on issue platforms and built support among a diverse group of civic and community-based organizations. The individual will connect with elected officials, candidates, and voters to educate leaders about sustainable transportation issues and raise the profile of our issues in local races. Essential duties include:

Access Living Community Development Organizer - Chicago IL

Position Title: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZER

BASIC FUNCTION:
Development and implementation of community organizing campaigns on topics including but
not limited to: racial justice, community integration, transit and other disability issues. Base
building and recruitment of grassroots leaders of all ages to build Access Living’s capacity for
advocacy mobilization through Power to the People coalition (PTP).

DUTIES:
 Campaign Development: In coordination with manager and fellow organizers, design
and coordinate advocacy/organizing campaigns for systems change and reform at the
local, state and Federal levels which support Access Living’s mission and strategic goals;
 Base Building: Recruit new grassroots leaders for PTP through any combination of the
following: social media, tabling at community events, phone banking, canvassing, one-
on-ones, house meetings, presentations at/referrals from AL independent living services,
 Training and Leadership Development: Provide grassroots leaders in the disability
community with leadership development and organizing training; Train people with
disabilities on advocacy, legislative processes, and direct action,
 Coalition Building: Increase PTP’s political power by building and cultivating
relationships with community groups, advocacy organizations, and government agencies
to create broad coalitional support for disability rights issues,
 Internal Collaboration: Coordinate with Access Living legal and direct services staff as
needed, and to recruit members for PTP from those clients assisted,
 Policy Work: Provide support to the Manager of Organizing and Policy in monitoring
campaign-relevant policy and legislation at local, state and Federal levels; coordinating
public and written testimony and comments on proposed legislation and policy/rule
changes; and promoting new policies and policy reform efforts to further the disability
movement.
 Community Education/Outreach: Conduct popular education efforts around disability
and racial justice and specific policy and legislation, including through the use of media;
Provide internal and external workshops as needed
 Miscellaneous Duties: Conduct written quarterly project activities reports; Ensure
compliance with grant requirements through regular data entry; act as a spokesperson for
Access Living on campaign-specific issues as assigned; and execute any other duties as
assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree or applicable life/work experience. Good communication skills, both for
public presentations and written reports. A writing sample may be required. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook.

EXPERIENCE:
Extensive experience (3-5 years as paid staff or key strategic leader) in community organizing
strongly preferred. Knowledge of racial justice issues, disability issues, and/or independent
living philosophy is strongly preferred. Understanding of social media is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to travel extensively and independently within the City of Chicago, as well as
occasional travel outside of Chicago.
