Planning & Policy Program Manager - American Public Transportation Association (DC)

Who: The American Public Transportation Association’s mission is to strengthen and improve public transportation, APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation and information sharing. APTA and its members and staff work to ensure that public transportation is available and accessible for all Americans in communities across the country.

What: APTA has an immediate need for a Program Manager-Planning & Policy who will be responsible for organizing mobility management program activities that support APTA’s policy goals. The candidate will also have extensive communication and interaction with APTA members and non-members. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as staff advisor to APTA’s Mobility Management Committee and APTA’s State Affairs Committee; 
  • Maintain and continually enhance the APTA Mobility Innovation Hub; 
  • Under direction from the Director-Planning, Policy and Sustainability, support the administrative management and program tasks/activities of the National Center for Mobility Management; 
  • Serve as staff advisor to the APTA Mobility Standards work group and seek broad engagement from APTA membership; 
  • Support APTA Standards Urban Design Work Group efforts; 
  • Organize and support sessions at major APTA conferences; 
  • Manage the Innovative Pilot of the Month webinars; 
  • Provide support as needed to APTA’s Planning, Policy and Program Development Committee and subcommittees; 
  • Represent the Association at conferences of public and special interest groups; 
  • Support ongoing transportation planning research efforts and serve as liaison to selected TCRP research projects 
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, urban planning/transportation or related field, two years work experience with programs related to public policy. A masters’ degree in urban planning is preferred. In addition, candidate should be familiarity with federal transit planning, policies and programs as well as major issues and priorities in public transportation. Strong writing and communications skills are also required. Must be willing to travel to support committees and conferences. Convenient Metro location.
