Responsibilities

In this position, the successful candidate will be expected to manage a team of GIS analysts and to provide guidance to planning staff members who do basic spatial analysis. The GIS Manager will:
  • Manage GIS staff, including GIS leads in each of the offices
  • Maintain quality control through supervision of GIS leads and in collaboration with the Assistant GIS Manager (West Coast lead)
  • Manage the workflow on the East Coast
  • Manage GIS procedures and software access across the firm
  • Develop in-house GIS tools and resources and supervise all GIS users
  • Provide training to GIS staff and develop training materials
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to GIS users in all offices
  • Oversee GIS file management and archiving for the firm
  • Act as point person for internal mapping needs (marketing, website, special projects)
The GIS Manager will also spend approximately one-third of his or her time completing spatial analyses related to demographics, transit routes and facilities, parking studies, and ped/bike projects. The manager may be expected to:
  • Generate maps and cartographic products for projects using ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, Google Earth Pro, and other software tools as necessary
  • Perform spatial and network analysis tasks and act as a technical specialist on projects
  • Assist in online GIS/web maps for public engagement

Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold at minimum a bachelor’s degree in Geography or Urban Planning or a Graduate Certification in GIS. The candidate must have a minimum of 7 years of experience as a GIS analyst and at least 2 years of experience as a manager or supervisor of a team. The candidate must have strong proficiency with ArcGIS 10.2 or above, Google Earth and Adobe Illustrator. Familiarity with SketchUp, VectorWorks or CAD, Adobe Photoshop/InDesign, Python scripts, C#/VB.NET programming or web development is a plus. Candidates will be tested on their proficiency with GIS tasks.

Job Description

The Division of Preservation Finance seeks a Director for Lead Prevention
and Healthy Homes Initiatives to manage the Primary Prevention Program
(PPP), a federally funded program that makes loans to single and
multi-family homeowners for lead treatment, and to establish Healthy Homes
programs and practices in the Division of Preservation Finance. The
Division of Preservation Finance administers multiple loan programs
including the Multifamily Housing Rehabilitation Program, the
Participation Loan Program, the Green Housing Preservation Program, the
HUD Multifamily Loan Program and the LIHTC Preservation (Year 15) Program.
These programs facilitate the rehabilitation of privately-owned
multifamily buildings throughout New York City.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of
full-time satisfactory professional experience in the development, design,
construction, appraisal, financing, negotiation or disposition of real
estate or in real estate law, or in urban planning, design or renewal, or
analytical or coordination work related to housing programs; at least 18
months must have been in an executive, administrative or managerial
capacity or supervising professional personnel performing work in the
fields noted above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent
to "1" above. Graduate study in the field of urban studies, city planning,
business or public administration, finance, architecture, engineering or
other related fields may be substituted for up to one year of the required
experience on the

basis of 30 credits equaling one year of experience. Graduation from an
accredited law school may be substituted for one year of the required
experience. However, all candidates must have three years of work
experience including at least 18 months of executive, administrative,
managerial or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Candidates must have strong management skills, be detailed-oriented,
organized, self-motivated, and be able to manage multiple projects and
meet deadlines. Candidates must also demonstrate strong verbal and written
communication skills. Demonstrated analytical skills, and ability to use
data to manage and work effectively with others to obtain results promptly
as required. Strong computer skills, especially facility with Microsoft
Excel and Word, required. Candidates with Bachelors or Masters in Urban
Planning, Real Estate Finance, Business Administration or related fields
are strongly preferred.

The Director of Competitions is an organized, creative, and resourceful individual who leads every aspect of Van Alen Institute’s design competitions.
We see the competition as a vehicle to mobilize people across disciplines to develop innovative approaches to complex social, cultural, and ecological challenges around the world. From temporary installations to long-term regional planning, we bring together multidisciplinary professional teams with local stakeholders to produce innovative ideas, implementable strategies, and singular interventions in the built environment. We are extremely hands-on in our approach and work closely with teams and key stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcomes.
We’re looking for someone who can creatively and resourcefully carry out the organization’s ambitious strategic plan by expanding the reach of our competitions internationally and into new topic areas; develop strategic partnerships, particularly with stakeholders and experts outside of design and planning; craft and oversee a wide range of new projects to address pressing challenges; lead fundraising and budget management for competitions; work closely with the Director of Research and Director of Programs to integrate all of Van Alen Institute’s work. You are: someone well-versed in design thinking who can dream up innovative projects and see them through to implementation; an excellent collaborator and manager; comfortable leading meetings with commissioners of city agencies, grassroots community organizations, and experts in fields that are not part of your expertise; curious about cities and regions, and in rethinking the processes and tools people use to shape them.
The Director of Competitions oversees the Competitions Coordinator, and works directly with the Executive Director as well as other Van Alen Institute staff and external collaborators, consultants and clients. The Director of Competitions reports to the Executive Director.
Specific duties include but are not limited to: 
Organizational 
  • Carry out Van Alen’s strategic plan to increase the visibility, expand the geographic reach, and strengthen the impact of Van Alen competitions; and to explore the impacts of the built environment on our minds, bodies, and a wide range of outcomes 
  • Develop new models for competitions as a tool for generating approaches and solutions to pressing problems 
  • Oversee the Competitions Coordinator 
  • Work closely with the Director of Programs and Director of Research to coordinate all projects and programs Van Alen creates each year. 
  • Lead quarterly meetings with the Competitions Committee, a group of board members and outside advisors who help guide our competitions work 
  • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other fora; this may include evenings, weekends, and travel Project-based 
  • Conceive and oversee multiple projects at many different scales, in cities and regions around the world 
  • Oversee and guide multidisciplinary teams in their work through regular meetings and interim reviews, and oversee stakeholders to complete and implement projects 
  • Set and oversee the organization’s competition budgets, and individual competition budgets; lead competition fundraising efforts with philanthropies, corporate sponsors, government agencies, and individuals 
  • Oversee all administrative and logistical aspects of competitions 
  • Oversee development of all communications and outreach plans for competitions, including producing websites, public programs and events, presentations, and brochures 
  • Oversee the production of all public programs related to competitions; past competition programs have included design charrettes, parades, bike tours, and other events
Qualifications include: 
  • Bachelor's degree and 5-10 years of working experience in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or a related field, with proven track record of successfully launching, managing, and implementing projects.

RPA is seeking a creative and dynamic professional to direct the organization’s community planning and design program. The program implements RPA principles and objectives in communities of all scales across the region, from dense urban centers to emerging exurban communities. The director will work with a talented staff to develop housing, economic development and design strategies for specific places, as well as for the metropolitan area as a whole. Working in the New York City office and reporting to the vice president for research, the director of community planning and design will manage and develop a comprehensive set of projects and policy initiatives to advance equitable, sustainable and attractive communities across the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan area. A primary goal is to expand the community planning program to help build deeper partnerships and long-lasting relationships in the communities we serve, particularly with organizations   representing low-income individuals and communities of color, as well as other underrepresented constituencies. The director will work closely with other RPA staff to integrate community planning into the organization’s environmental and transportation initiatives. The director also will staff a program advisory committee of RPA board members and experts.
RPA offers a unique opportunity to help shape the built environment in one of the world’s most complex metropolitan landscapes. Last year, RPA began working on a new regional plan for the tri-state metropolitan area – a blueprint for the region’s growth, sustainability, good governance and economic opportunity for the next 25 years. The director, working with RPA’s senior fellow for design and senior fellow for engagement and partnerships, will be responsible for shaping housing, economic development and design initiatives for the plan, and will help to build a network of constituents who will help carry out these recommendations. POSITION OBJECTIVE
Enhance passenger experience and value capture opportunities through the oversight of MNR's station area planning functions such as: Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), station environment planning (including the development of passenger amenities and complementary on-property retail developments), modal integration (including pedestrian, bike, bus, ferry and automobile access), and liaison between planning and development interests in local communities and key stakeholders throughout the Railroad and the MTA
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the station area planning program for Metro-North. Assess station/local needs with municipalities; survey land uses, assess assets, review zoning, understand station access/connectivity challenges and opportunities, and overall station-area design approach and opportunities. Work closely with partner entities (such as other MTA and municipal planning agencies) to ensure connectivity, leverage assets and capture value where possible.
  • Cultivate third party partnerships for program and infrastructure development at MNR stations. Assess and advance viable TOD opportunities in coordination with MTA TOD group. Create transportation/live/work/play station-based destinations (e.g. station plazas, shared use facilities, community-based market places, etc.). Capitalize on both MNR and surrounding assets and properties.
  • Oversee MNR's system-wide real property portfolio in coordination with MTA Real Estate which handles property transactions. Assist in strategic management of MNR property needs in close coordination with MTA real estate. Liaison between MNR and MTARE to review developing real estate matters affecting MNR. Present MNR Real Estate matters internally at the MNR executive level and to the MNR Committee of the MTA Board, as required (in coordination with w/Corp./Media Affairs Dept).
  • Champion expansion and enhancement of system-wide station net-leasing program including identification of new opportunities while managing current portfolio. Help assess passenger needs and identify retail opportunities. With MTARE, develop system wide strategies to enhance value of program and station property offerings through enhanced marketing, licensing/ leasing to maximize revenue and offer broader amenities to MNR customers.
  • Other duties as may be required to support Department, Division and Railroad objectives
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
