INTERNSHIP CNU Project Assistant Intern

Project Assistant Intern

Organization: The Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) is leading the
revival of walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. A membership-based,
advocacy organization, CNU works to advance and promote the principles
of New Urbanism. CNU seeks to restore urbanist design and planning
techniques to common practice. CNU supports public policy that enables
great place making and seeks to remove barriers to urbanism. For more

Summary: The Project Assistant Intern is responsible for keeping track
of details related to CNU’s annual Congress and Transportation Summit.
This person reports to the Planning Director of CNU. Interns are
required to commit to 10-15 hours per week and priority is geared
toward individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate
program.

Assist with Annual Congress and Annual Transportation Summit Event Planning:
-Assist with tracking of the “Call for Sessions” request for annual Congress.
-Data entry and management of both the CNU Congress Program and
Speaker Database
-Edit session descriptions/speaker bios and contact information
-Pull data for website content, speaker correspondence, etc.
-Draft correspondence to speakers and attendees regarding program
content and logistics
-Assist with research for best practices in event management and idea tracking
-Manage email accounts: speakerinfo@cnu.org and callforpapers@cnu.org

Continuing Education Credit Management:
-Research continuing education credit opportunities
-Apply for conference credits at the American Institute of Architects
(AIA) and American Planning Association (APA).
-Research additional continuing education as necessary

Outreach Work:
-Maintain the Partner Event Database- create new entries and explore
new opportunities
-Develop outreach plans to reach CNU event partners
-Draft CNU news items and blogs
-Keep CNU website up-to-date with new speaker information
-Develop outreach plan and liaison to universities as part of Charter
Awards and Call for Papers Updates
-Other duties and responsibilities assigned at the discretion of CNU

Qualifications:
-Knowledge of Urban Planning and New Urbanism
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Computer proficiency, including word processing (MS Word),
spreadsheet (MS Excel), database (Filemaker Pro), presentation (MS
PowerPoint) software in Mac OS environment. Some knowledge of HTML,
basic web-design programs such as Dreamweaver and database operations
(Filemaker Pro) desired.
-Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, presentations and other documents
-Strong strategic thinking, planning and organizational skills
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Ability to learn independently, take initiative, and work with
limited supervision
