Amtrak has an immediate opportunity available for an Officer, Employee and Customer Communications in its Government Affairs and Corporate Communications department in Washington, DC.
The officer, Employee and Customer Communications position assists in the development, coordination and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that is aligned with and complements Government Affairs strategy, and supports the corporation’s goals. The function is designed in large part for the internal audience, with some work dedicated to passengers and other stakeholders. The individual works closely with all departments and uses a wide range of materials and methods to communicate internally and externally.
In coordination with the Government Affairs staff and activities, design and implement comprehensive communications strategies that 1) provide timely information to employees about company goals, initiatives and other news using multimedia communications vehicles such as a weekly bulletin, Amtrak’s monthly employee magazine and the intranet.
• Develop and issue weekly bulletin to employees. Identify and execute new ways to communicate information to employees on a regular basis.
• Build strong personal working relationships with all relevant corporate departments to support their internal communications needs. Proactively keep informed about company activities and initiatives. Manage issues/initiatives in a strategic context, and proactively identify opportunities to promote initiatives and align with or develop strategic messaging.
• Develop communications plans, talking points and other collateral designed for internal and external audiences.
• Ensure that all materials are well written, accurate and consistent with the company’s strategic goals and brand standards. Ensure that all materials are disseminated to reach the greatest number of employees and make recommendations for improving these processes. Additional duties as assigned by the Sr. Dir., Employee and Customer Communications.
Job Requirements
To qualify, you must have a BA in public relations, communications, journalism or related field. Demonstrated experience in corporate communications, public relations or public affairs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to develop multi-faceted communications plans, draft journalistic-style articles, talking points and other collateral within tight deadlines. Strong issues management and strategic communications skills. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision. Ability to successfully interact with a broad range of personnel within a corporate environment. Ability to think analytically and strategically. Detailed-oriented, with excellent project management skills. Familiarity with basic design principles and layout preferred. Some travel is required.
HIRING RANGE: $60,000 - $76,000
