The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Planning Department is seeking an experienced planner to join the Community Planning Division.
This position performs professional level planning work as a Senior Planner under general supervision of a project leader or supervisor. The successful candidate must possess professional experience in the preparation of community plans and studies; be knowledgeable about public outreach and engagement techniques, land use and zoning best practices, urban design, and project management; be motivated, team oriented and skilled in working in a diverse, innovative planning environment. Experience working with municipalities, development review committees, and in older established communities is desirable. The Senior Planner plays an important role in planning activities to achieve sustainable, mixed-use, walkable and bike-able communities in the County.
Examples of important responsibilities include: leading efforts to prepare major planning studies and/or major components of a master or sector plan including transportation, environmental, public facilities, public engagement, land use and zoning and/or urban design; serving as the community planner for one or more areas of the County; reviewing development applications and preparing referral reports; writing planning reports and correspondence; presenting plans and recommendations to senior management, the planning board, advisory and community groups, municipal officials and the County Council; and serving as a liaison to municipalities and/or state and federal agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, or equivalent disciplines related to job function and one year of progressively responsible professional level planning experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Required Knowledge of: planning principles and best practices, local government operations, and land use codes. Work entails the interpretation of development plans, codes, and regulations; preparation of staff reports; and public presentations. Requires effective communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Experience with Creative Suite, PowerPoint, GIS, AutoCAD, and SketchUp software is strongly preferred. In addition professional certifications and/or accreditations including AICP, LEED or CNU is desirable.
