The McHenry County Emergency Management Agency has an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals seeking to make a difference in McHenry County. McHenry County is seeking qualified applicants for a full time Emergency Management Planner. The employee in this position will develop policies, guidelines, and service delivery systems which address the emergency management and preparedness needs of McHenry County.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 
  • Research, develop, and update County emergency response plans. Analyzes local hazards and emergency preparedness. Coordinates emergency service planning and program development within local jurisdictions.
  • Monitors federal and state emergency plans and modifies local plan to ensure coordination.
  • Assist local governments in the development of emergency plans.
  • Collect, maintain and analyze data related to projects.
  • Establish objectives and performance measurements.
  • Develops and maintains emergency procedures manual.
  • Performs data entry using word processing, spreadsheet or database commands; formats material as required.
  • Operates office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, phone systems, and use computers for spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and other applications.
  • Assists in development of municipal and County disaster exercises
  • Maintains 24/7 availability to respond to emergencies, exercises and other related activities
  • Interacts with staff, elected officials and the general public in person or by telephone in order to respond to inquiries.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
To make the greatest impact in this position, we ask that applicants possess the following qualifications: 

Education and Experience: 
  • Associates Degree in Emergency Management.
  • One or more years of experience related to emergency planning and management activities.
  • NIMS Training
  • IL and Federal Professional Development Series
  • IL Professional Emergency Manager Accreditation (preferred)
Licenses and Certifications: 
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license
